PPH: Girls’ basketball players of the year

Emily Esposito, Gorham
The senior guard is heading to Villanova after winning consecutive Class AA state titles.

...“I couldn’t have planned it any better,” said Esposito. “Forty-two-and-oh. Two state championships. Lots of life lessons along the way. I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness (when the Rams defeated Oxford Hills in the Class AA final, 45-31). I went out the best way possible. And I went out with my best friends.”

Esposito also finished her career as the Maine Sunday Telegram’s Player of the Year in girls’ basketball. Bound for Division I Villanova University, Esposito averaged 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 4.0 assists to help the Rams complete back-to-back 21-0 seasons. She finished her career with 1,446 points, 555 rebounds, 277 steals and 247 assists.

And she was always at her best when the Rams needed her most.

Congrats to those who were selected. The list seems to have a bit of a central/southern Maine slant, but certainly all deserving choices.

Just curious as to why FB from Boothbay did not make cut. Just a curious ? as I do not know all the players, but posts on her seemed very highly rated. I saw many of these players and very well rounded as some contribute much more than just scoring. Again, not saying someone on list not deserving, but more where does she need to improve within her game.

EE.... my guess is that she was sidelined with an injury for a part of the season.
She is a very well rounded player and from seeing her play in AAU games over the
years, has improved her game on both ends of the floor each year. She is very humble
and If I know her, she might use this as "fuel to the fire" and could potentially be one of
the Top players in the State the next couple seasons.
