I admire GNG players. They all have great motors and never stop playing hard. Her name says Conley, but she sure plays like a Valente. This is where I give Michael so much credit and respect, he gets everything from his players.

MDI took the prelim game fairly easily, defeating MCI by 15 or so points. Sorry, I didn't get the final score.

PRELIM: John Bapst girls advance to quarterfinals after beating Ellsworth

BANGOR- The John Bapst Crusaders started the season undefeated, but could not sustain the momentum for the rest of the season. Because of such, they entered Tuesday night's preliminary contest against No. 10 Ellsworth as a seven-seed

John Bapst girls move into Class B North quarterfinals with win over Ellsworth

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor-based John Bapst High School Crusaders had watched senior guard Samantha Mason and her determined Ellsworth High School teammates whittle their 18-point second-quarter lead down to seven with 3:20 left in the third quarter.

But junior guard Abbey Legasse’s 3-pointer from the left corner triggered a string of nine unanswered points, and the seventh-seeded Crusaders went on to post a 55-39 victory over the No. 10 Eagles in a Class B North preliminary-round game on Tuesday evening at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Crusaders, 12-7, will take on No. 2 seed Presque Isle in the quarterfinal game at 9:05 a.m. Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center. The teams met in last year’s quarterfinals with Presque Isle notching a 51-35 triumph.

PRELIM: Central girls basketball team finds its touch, ousts Washington Academy

... Sixth-ranked Central of Corinth experienced some of that uncertainty Tuesday evening but shook off a rocky shooting start to defeat No. 11 Washington Academy of East Machias 43-32 in a Class B North preliminary-round contest.

“We just kept shooting, and eventually, we started making them,” said Central junior guard Sydney Allen, who scored a game-high 18 points as Central shot 11 of 23 (48 percent) from the field in the second half after making just four of 27 tries (15 percent) before intermission.

“Coach [Diane Rollins] just said to keep shooting and keep your head up and keep doing what you know how to do,” she said.

PI Wildcats looking to win third title in six years

PRESQUE ISLE, Me (WAGM) - The Presque Isle girls basketball team has ended the regular season on a six game winning streak. That streak started by handing Houlton it's first loss of the season. But the Wildcats are looking for more than just that big win.

Winslow girls have put together another outstanding season

... Defense has been one of the staples of their success as Winslow has held its opponents to 40 points or less 16 times in 19 games.

Winslow beat Mount View of Thorndike 47-14 in a preliminary round game earlier this week.

“We take pride in our defense,”said head coach Lindsey Withee. “We work real hard at it….defense and rebounding.”

She said her team is “very scrappy. The girls give 100 percent for all 32 minutes.”

Foxcroft Academy girls outlast Central in ‘B’ quarterfinal

... Simpson’s perimeter bucket ignited a quarter-ending 12-4 run that gave the Ponies some breathing room.

“Abby really stepped up and was finishing a lot of stuff around the basket for us,” said Smith. “She’s a tough post player.”

Simpson scored 11 of her 19 points in the second half, and the Red Devils had no answers for her penetration.

“Previously this season we’ve had trouble getting it into the post, but we worked on it in practice a little bit,” Simpson said.
