Husson: Women's Basketball Adds Front and Back Court Depth for 2017-18

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University women's basketball added some depth to their front and back courts this week, receiving a commitment from Emma Alley and Abby Simpson. Simpson is a six-foot forward from Dover-Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, while Alley is a guard from Stearns High School in Milliknocket, Maine.

"Abby is a 6'0" post player who will complement our post play well," said head coach Kissy Walker. "She is quick to react on the boards, she plays physical, hustles and can defend in the paint."

Simpson was a three year starter for Dover-Foxcroft. She tallied 589 rebounds in her four years and led the Big East Conference in rebounding during her three years as a starter.

During her senior year, Simpson was named Bangor Daily News all-tournament team. She finished her career with 538 points, 116 assists, and 67 steals.

"Emma plays intense defense on the ball which is the style we like from our back court players," added Walker. "She has a good handle on the ball and can shoot. With the loss of 3 quick senior guards, Emma's skill set will be valuable."

Alley earned a spot on the Penobscot Valley Conference 1st team, while being named to the state of Maine high school basketball tournament Class C all-tournament team.

She was named an McDonald's All Star in 2017 and as a finalist for Miss Maine Basketball, the most prestigious high school basketball honor.

Alley's parents are Kristi Tapley, who played for Coach Walker from 1990-93, and Ray Alley who also played basketball at Husson under Bruce MacGregor and are both members of the Husson's Sports Hall of Fame.

Husson will graduate three seniors off a 23-5 squad that captured back-to-back North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championships, while recording back-to-back 20-win seasons. The Eagles also won the program's first ever NCAA tournament game by defeating DeSales 74-72.

The women will open up their 2017-18 campaign at Williams College in Williamstown, MA for the Williams Classic tip-off.
