Messalonskee senior shooting guard, Sophia Holmes still undecided.

Its hard to believe that Sophia Holmes, Messalonskees senior shooting guard has not accepted a position for the 2017 college season, despite multiple offers. When asked Sophia responded that she wanted to explore all options to make the best decision for her future. She is an incredible player that demonstartes strong leadership both on and off the court. She would be a great asset to any team and they would be lucky to have her. She has surpassed her 1000 point mark early in her senior season making her a strong offensive presence and has been an equally as great defensive presence leading her team in steals and rebounds. As a messalonskee fan it has been a pleasure watching her play and watching the program grow around her.

I commend Ms. Carter for choosing The College of Wooster. Congratulations!
Historically, not many kids, especially girls, dare to venture out beyond New England or the north east region to attend college as a student/athlete. Florida students are the same way. As a Mainer, I think it's a good experience for some youngsters to see the west, mid-west, or the south. Even if they transfer after a year or two. Still, I commend Carter and other student/athletes like her for venturing out beyond their comfort-zone, nearly 1000 miles away from home. :)

Former Spruce Mountain HS standout, and current Central Maine Community College sophomore point guard, Nicole Hamblin, will be continuing her education and basketball career at the University of New England in the fall. She will be completing her Life Sciences degree and Honors Program this spring and has already been accepted into UNE's dental program. Hamblin met with UNE's coaching staff last night after their 73-58 CCC quarterfinal win over Gordon College.

Hamblin has helped lead the CM Lady Mustangs to a 30-1 record, the Yankee Conference Regular Season and Conference Tournament Championships, and the #1 seed in next week's USCAA DII National Tournament in Uniontown, PA.

Mackenzie chose Wooster because of the courses offered first. She will major in Neuroscience with a minor in Genetics. She did visit the campus, met with the team while there and enjoyed the campus, their offerings and the coach's outlook on both sports and educational opportunities. She had other offers but none with her chosen field within her price range. She has played AAU since 6th grade with Black Bear North, New England Crusaders and Mission Hoops. She chose wisely, the scholarships, grants with the "best offer" to get to her goal with the least debt. The chance to continue her basketball career was just a benefit. Thank you TheBigMan.. she is a smart kiddo.

Sidney Moore commits to UMA Moose

Feb 23, 2017
UMA basketball is excited to announce that Nokomis senior guard, Sidney Moore has
committed to the Moose for the 2017-2018 season.

Moore was named to the second team all-conference during the 2015-16 season and continues
to help lead the Warriors in the Maine state tournament as they advance to the Class A North
semifinals.

When asked why she chose UMA Moore said, "I decided upon UMA because of the
atmosphere. I don't just want to be just another kid attending a college. I really believe that UMA
will allow me to be apart of a family."

Moore has also demonstrated that her hard work is not limited to the court as she has
maintained high honors academically throughout high school earning an outstanding
achievement in math. Moore added, "On an academic note, I am currently in the Bridge
Program at Nokomis and am already working through credits in the UMA system."

Head coach Jennifer Laney is excited about the arrival of Moore. "Sidney will be a great addition
to the Moose family. Her sharp shooting, poise, and court awareness will be strong assets for
us."

Please help us welcome Sidney to our Moose family!
