Thanks BBall. She has worked hard to be a good student, 3 sport athlete and role model for many young girls in SP, including her younger sister.

Also, it was great seeing you at the games the other night. Based on some of your prior posts, I was not expecting to see you there.

Congratulations, that was a really nice piece! Your family has represented South Portland very well, best of luck, (except for Thursday of course :)

Thanks Lenny, much appreciated. Thursday should be fun, but we have a big game tonight at Deering first, so no looking ahead on the Riots part that is for sure.

Thanks Hendu

I have enjoyed watching Lydia play for the 4 years since on Varsity. She has been a great Point Guard and has run the Offense well for the Riots. Will be sad to see her go but I am sure her career will not end after high school.

Also I was able to go as my family felt that I needed a break since I have hardly left the house since September.

I do plan on making more but will be limited to how many. It was great to see the girls start off on a winning effort and hopefully many more will come.

Good Luck Riots!!!

Unsung Hero: Lydia Henderson, South Portland
Lydia Henderson's coach, Lynne Hasson, said Henderson "always put the team first."

Over the last four years, the girls’ basketball team at South Portland High won 80 percent of its games, going 64-17 and advancing to the Class AA South title game each of the past two seasons.

And Lydia Henderson was right in the middle of all that success.

Oh, you probably wouldn’t find the senior guard among the Red Riots’ leading scorers, but she was there in every dribble, every pass deflected, every steal, every forced turnover.

That’s why Henderson, who is heading to Bentley University, was named the Unsung Hero at this year’s Varsity Maine Awards.
