What a wonderful piece. Lot more to this young lady than what we read in the paper. Clearly her parents raised her with the right values and perspectives. Love to see them get to a semi game so all of Maine can see her play.

Eddie Expo - Our family appreciates the kind words. Gracie's goal for the BHS BB program is to make the playoffs & go as far as possible. A dream come true would be to play on the floor of the Cross Arena. A huge challenge for the program & time will tell. - The Martin family ;)

Congrats to Grace on scoring her 1000th point in hoops and being name JT Volleyball MVP !

Martin closed out volleyball career with stellar season
Journal Tribune 2018 Volleyball MVP: Biddeford's Gracie Martin

BIDDEFORD — Biddeford’s Gracie Martin just reached a milestone on the basketball court with her 1,000th career point and she will be playing hoops at Division I Harvard next year, but the BHS senior has also made a name for herself on the volleyball court.

Martin put together a stellar senior season as she led the Tigers to the Class A state semifinals — and that is why she has been named the Journal Tribune’s Most Valuable Volleyball Player for the second straight year.

“I think it’s great and I appreciate (the Journal Tribune’s) recognition for these past two years. I think it’s awesome to be recognized for a sport because it shows I work just as hard in volleyball as I do in basketball,” said Martin, who didn’t start playing volleyball until her freshman year of high school.

Martin racked up 352 kills, 135 digs, 30 blocks and had a 95 percent serving percentage this season. The senior was a key reason why the Tigers went 10-4 in the regular season.

Super basketball player. I've enjoyed watching her compete these past four years for a team that doesn't have a whole lot around her. Hardworking, great attitude and clearly well-rounded. Congrats and good luck to Grace!
