Hi Lenny,

Thanks for this and good luck to both teams - I know they will do great.

If you get a chance, can you send along the rosters for the teams this week for those that may not know who is on both teams at this time.

Thanks again and go Firecrackers!

Maggie and Katie Whitmore - South Portland
Brooke Obar, Camille Clement and Anna DeWolfe - Greely
Faith Blethen - Boothbay

I want to make sure I have all the names of the 16's before I post, they have had some changes due to injuries.

The 17''s have had a great Spring leading up to this event. They have really established themselves as the top team in New England, going undefeated against other New Engalnd Clubs, so looking forward to this new challeng. This will be the next to last event for this talented group. You will be able to watch the games on Facebook Live on Joan Kinney Holmes page.

Quick update, both teams went 2-0 today and look to continue the great start tomorrow. The 17's will face the two toughest teams in their Pool Play tomorrow starting at 11:45 CST vs the George Hill All Stars who have a player that is being highly recruited by multiple big DI programs. They will follow that up with the Wisconsin Select program, who is somewhat of a mirror image, extremely will coached and disciplined, with a good amount of talent mixed in. Tomorrow's games will decide whether the team moves to championship game play on Thursday, as these 3 teams are clearly the class of the Pool.

We are hoping to have better luck wth the Facebok Live feed tomorrow as it was sketchy at best today. Looking to get a password to the better connection. If all goes well there will be a much better feed tomorrow.

Great day for the 17U Squad as the posted impressive wins over the top teams in their pool. The defensive pressure put on by this young group of ladies, left both teams bewildered. They each came into the games averaging around 60 points a game and were both held to 32 points against the Ladies from Maine. The switching defense employed by Coach Briggs, effectively eliminated the dribble drive action both teams were hoping to run.

The team is really kicking on all cylinders at the right time. It would be nice if North America's largest convention center could have reliable Wifi, so folks back home could watch this team play, as they are truly a rare bunch of girls from Maine. Rare in that they are a HS team from Maine which boasts 6 Scholarship players with a couple of more very close. They are playing in the highest division of the Tournament of Champions and are performing at an optimum level. The wins today guarantee them a place in the Championship Game tomorrow at 2:15, even with one pool play game to go. Here is hoping the great play continues.

The 16U teams (roster below) had a heart breaking 2 point loss in their first game, however, they still have an outside shot at advancing to the finals, with victories in their last two games. The team members playing this week are

Jacqui Hamilton and Adele Nadeau - Gorham
Paige Cote - Sanford
Kaleisha Toll - South Portland
Madison Blanche - Scarborough
Caroline Smith - Freeport
Amy Flemming - Noble
Julia Colby - Oxford Hills
Glory Blethan - Boothbay

from 15u squad...

Good effort by 15U Firecrackers missing key players and coming together to win 16u Oslo Division at Nike TOC Chicago. Hard workers + unselfish + no ego = Joy to Coach. 16u made great run going 5-1 and finishing 2nd to loaded team.

Tough finish for the 17's on the final day of play. Played a fantastic first half and led by 12 points at the half. Great ball movement, playing inside-out basketball to a tee and hard nose defense. 2nd half was a different story and turnovers killed the team. Twice with the ball in the final 30 seconds, tie game and turned the ball over each time, the final one leading to a 3 point play, with 6 seconds to play. The team had one last possession for a final 3 pointer attempt, but you guessed it, turn the ball over and never got a shot. You can't give other talented teams that many chances and expect to win.

Overall the team preformed very well. As they have done for what seems like a long time, Anna DeWolfe and Mackenzie Holmes paced the team consistently in scoring and leadership. The talented duo have been playing with each other so long, they always seem to know where each other is on the floor. Holmes got to meet and hang out with the 3 other 2019 Recruits for Indiana University and they all could be found at each others games, supporting their future teammates.

Grace Martin also scored highly all week and has added a 3 point shot to her ever developing game, keeps improving every tournament. Grace is only senior with DI offers on the table (Uncommitted) and her play in this event is only going to create even more opportunities. Faith Blethan continues to show why she is headed to George Washington next year as she does a little of everything - defends, scores when needed, brings the ball up the court against pressure, great all round game. Like DeWolfe and Holmes, she is also a great teammate and leader. Mackenzie Ouellette may have had one of the better showings all week as well as she played great. Hit several Big 3's in the championship game and was reliable with the ball in her hands. The event should also create some great looks for her. Katie Whitmore the final senior on the squad brought what she always brings, intensity and desire every time she steps on the floor.

The underclassmen showed well as the gain valuable experience for next year when they will take over the leadership roles. They will have some big shoes to fill but all are capable of doing so. Maggie Whitmore's versatility continues to shine as she can play multiple positions on the floor and she too has added a deadly outside shot to her arsenal. Brook Obar alternated as the primary back up for DeWolfe and Ouellette and did not disappoint. Has a scorers mentality and is adept and shooting the 3 ball as she is lofting one handed floaters in the lane. The final member of the team and only 2021 player, Camille Clement, also performed well when called upon. Her defensive intensity has increased all season long and she can simply flat out shoot the basketball, big things for her moving forward.

The team will play in their final event July 22-25 at the USJN tournament in DC.
