Still getting overlooked even with a good showing in Virginia. But it is true, only 60 kids get drafted. The rest have to impress various scouts.

30 NBA teams. So approx 450 in the league. Now break out by position. Add in salarycap, fit, etc. Realistically a new comer is really competing with maybe 125-150 for the spot they play. Even the backups in the pros are really good. Just being considered is an incredible accomplishment.
Certainly hope it works out for Nick. Great guy, from a great family!!

Nick is a very talented player. In Portsmouth he proved he belongs. A long strong player who can stretch the defense which puts him in the mix to be a potential NBA player.

Nick Mayo: I spent all last week preparing myself for this Lakers workout. I was excited and eager for it. On Monday, I flew out to LA where I was picked up and brought to the hotel for my workout the next morning. Being so anxious and ready for the workout, I didn’t necessarily get the best night of sleep, but once I was up I was ready to go. There were five other players entering the draft that worked out with me. The Lakers’ facilities were top-notch and the workout went pretty well. For me, it was a great first experience and I will be having several more workouts with other teams over the next month. – via Eastern Kentucky University

I'd love to see team scouting reports on Mayo. Strengths and weaknesses. It would be a fun part of the sports business to be in. Player evaluations. They have to have "Money Ball" statisticians crunching the numbers too.

Too bad and disappointing that today's NBC's latest top 50 in the latest NBA Draft list after the combines does not have Nick in the top 50. Maybe, he is in the 51-60 group. Still hoping he will become the first Maine high school player to ever play in a regular season NBA game.

Only Maine connection to playing in the NBA is from UMaine Rick Carlisle from NY and Jeff Cross from NH.

Coach in NBA who played high school basketball in Maine is Brett Brown, South Portland High School.

Tough to get drafted today and then sticking, playing for a low mid major team like Eastern Kentucky 6-12 in conference play and 12-18 overall and ranked in realtimerpi.com's 232 of 353 teams ranked in RPI and 187 in SOS even if you had outstanding individual stats and making the All Conference team 4 years in a row in a very low mid major conference like the Ohio Valley Conference ranked 20th of 32 D-1 conferences in RPI and 21 in SOS. . There are probably between 100-125 players with chances to make the 60 draftees.

When you consider all the College players, international players, G-League players, etc. who want to be drafted then they have to make a roster.

Good luck to Nick come draft night.

Seems to me that when the "big schools" came to play EKU, Mayo always had big games.

6'9", prolific scorer and rebounder, and not on any mock draft lists. Dare I ask, is there racism in the NBA?

I see plenty of 6'9" bench warmers in the NBA, when they get on the floor they are throwing up bricks or turning the ball over. I think Mayo is better than a lot of them.
