Webb's Golden Tickets are out!

Postby reffan » Thu Feb 01, 2018 10:34 am

God has sent out his letters to the lucky zebras who have been chosen to work the 2018 High School tournament!

In bold letters:

ANY COLLEGE OFFICIAL WHO BRINGS HIS COLLEGE MECHANICS TO A GAME HAS NOT JUST DISRESPECTED THE GAME, HIMSELF, HIS WIFE BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY HE HAS DISRESPECTED HIS GOD! THERE IS A NO TOLERANCE POLICY ON THIS. ONE MISTAKE AND THAT OFFICIAL WILL BE TAKEN OFF THE COURT BY SECURITY AND BANNED FOR LIFE FROM EVER WORKING FOR GOD AGAIN!

in other words.......if your name is Boomer you need not apply.....kinda like the Irish signs in the 19th century...Irish need not apply.....

reffan will have more from God's letter later.....reffan is going to watch the State of the Union again!

#release the memo!

Sunday 1:00 Bangor

Reffan will be going to Gorham.....

*The 10,000 dollar question.....Did the Boomer get in??? He has met all the requirements......will be very interesting if the best referee in the State of Maine gets a "Golden Ticket".......

reffan heard that this year the MPA purchased two AED's for the meeting and there is a MEDCU stationed in the parking lot....just to be safe.....

reffan is trying to find out if the Boomer is in or out.......

Reffan, I don’t think Boomer has gotten past the qtr finals for many years, so this can’t be a shock to him. He’s been on Webb’s sh!t list ever since the game he wore his college shirt instead of his HS gray one.

reffan thinks Boomer has only "qualified" once in the past dozen years and was offered a game but it was a chicks game and he refused...

reffan has heard that he was not offered a golden ticket this year even though he worked the 15 games and garnered enough coaches votes to be eligible this year....

Reffan is now putting on his Devin Nunes hat and he will leave no stone un turned to find out why the Boomer was not chosen!

*going to call it...."Boomer-gate"

reffan just got back an email from a good friend of his who serves on the MPA basketball committee.
He let reffan know exactly how a zebra gets a "Golden Ticket" from Willy Webb....

1. He/she must be a member of good standing on their local board.
2. He/she must have worked 50 varsity games in their career. (X mas tourney games are not counted)
3. He/she must have worked at least 15 varsity games during the season (X mas games not counted)
4. He/she must get fellow officials support *will come back to that one
5. He/she must get a certain number of coaches votes (he said Webb decides the number)

*if you pass all three requirements you get into the "pool" of tourney officials. Willy Webb said in his "Golden Ticket" meetings that everyone will get at least one game.
**most votes does not mean the most games. if 7 coaches votes are needed and Ref A gets 7...he could work every day including the state game. Ref B could get 87 votes and be only given one. Webb controls the number of games.

#4 is the interesting requirement.....reffan's good friend said it is fairly new. All eligible refs get a list of officials on their board that qualifies.....then the zebra puts...YES NO or don't know. the votes go to Webb. reffan's good friend does not know how many NO's gets you taken out of the pool.

Reffan has a major issue with this requirement....fellow officials rating fellow officials?? you can get together with a group of officials and effectively "black ball" that official??? make sure a "rival" can not get in???

***is this the way Boomer did not make the tourney list????

reffan putting on his "tin-foil" hat.....officials who say no to Boomer know Webb hates him....so by saying no does the official think that Webb might take "notice"??? and maybe the official will move on???? "kiss up" to God???

wow...reffan thinks he is on to something here........

reffan, if the procedure you just explained is even partially accurate, then one would have to assume that the ballots would be anonymous with no names put on them so Webb wouldn't know who voted which way. In a ballot structure such as that it would not be justifiable to vote for favoritism knowing that the "man-in-charge" has a disliking towards a few officials for whatever reasons.

I'm sure the selection process is somewhat different than you just explained, but there are probably some similarities in there somewhere. ;)

Guys: Those 5 requirements are not new. They were in effect when I was reffing as late as 2015.

1. Good membership
2. Work 50 varsity games career
3. work 15 games current season
4. Officials approval-disapproval-did not know
5. Coaches votes

I have always been against number 4 above and to top that all off most assignment systems allow officials to help rate in the rating of fellow officials towards the officials rating system that is used in listing the official compared to fellow officials for being assigned regular season games.

I have never approved of an voting or rating by officials for other officials. Boards should hire an evaluator to evaluate/rate all officials on each board for assignment ratings.

Best way was when coaches voted for 10 in order of preference and were guaranteed one for each tourney game they played in. So each coach got one from heir list and sometimes the official was on both teams list so they got 2 from each of their lists.
