Someone does a good job with Portland’s exhibition schedule, a lot of preseason games and keeping them busy over Holliday with 2 more in red claws tourney , seems that never have a bad game and are always ready !

Portland boys ride second half surge to 12th straight victory over Deering

PORTLAND—It might take some time, but ultimately the Portland boys’ basketball team is going to roar past everybody.

Rival Deering played the familiar victim’s role Thursday evening in a countable contest played against the backdrop of the Red Claws Christmas Showcase tournament at the Portland Exposition Building.

Unlike in many recent meetings, the Rams hung tough in the first half, only trailing by four points, 12-8, after one quarter and by six, 25-19, when senior standout Ben Onek sank a long 3-pointer just before the second period horn.

Moss sparks Portland past Deering
Terion Moss finishes with 18 points as the Bulldogs pull away to remain unbeaten.

...“We played great team defense,” said Portland Coach Joe Russo. “We held a quality team to 34 points.”

Russo said the Bulldogs still had a lot of work to do offensively but that their success will always revolve around defense. That was especially evident in the second half.

“When we decide to play team defense, with the proper rotation, they can turn a game around quickly,” he said. “The first quarter, we played some good ‘D’ but we didn’t rotate properly. When we play team defense, we’re tough to score on.”
