Bidd now at 7-3 ..

These (Biddeford )Tigers are legit

...Biddeford later squared off against two of Class AA’s top teams: Thornton Academy and Scarborough.

First was TA. There was no way that Biddeford could compete with the Trojans, who won their last 20 meetings in decisive fashion. However, it would be the Tigers who came out firing, and would once again rise to the occasion in a last-minute comeback win in overtime.

Most recently was Scarborough, who sat at 8-2 and in second place in the conference. Once again, the Red Storm were just too stacked and too hot for the Tigers, but maybe Biddeford could give them a game and learn from the experience … the Tigers won 68-39 and made it look easy.

It definitely was surprising to see those wins at first, but then it hit me. This team is actually that good.

I've moved out of state but just clicked on the AA Playoff Schedule link and the AA North and South are only listed from Semi Finals on. Where are the Quarterfinals for AA North and South?

York edges Cape Elizabeth, 52-51
The No. 2 team in Class A South pulls out a victory against the top-ranked team in Class B South.
... York was protecting a one-point lead with 9 seconds remaining in Friday’s game against Class B Cape Elizabeth when Bowe took an inbounds pass and drove to the hoop. Linn closed in and stripped Bowe in the paint, the ball landed in the hands of teammate Tim MacDonald, and the Class A Wildcats preserved an exciting 52-51 victory inside Robert E. Butler Gymnasium.

“Coach told me ‘You have him. Don’t let him score,’” Linn said. “So I tried to keep it away from him. They threw a hard screen on me, so I had to get over that. He got the ball, I just played tight and I knew I had help from my team.”

York (9-3) reeled off its third straight win after dropping three consecutive games. MacDonald came off the bench to lead the Wildcats with 16 points, while his younger brother Will scored the go-ahead bucket on a drive with 28 seconds left and finished with 15 points.

“I was down low -- we were in a 1-3-1 (zone) -- so I was the low man,” Tim MacDonald said. “Riley got the ball loose and I just grabbed it and ran it down the other end. It felt great; it felt really good.”

Cony boys basketball rides defense to win over Lawrence
The Rams stand in seventh place in Class A North.
...“I think defensively we’re getting better,” Cony coach T.J. Maines said. “We forced a lot of turnovers, rebounded pretty well, ran the floor hard I was really pleased with that.”

The Rams forced 28 Lawrence turnovers with their full- and half-court pressure as the Bulldogs lost a little composure in the second half.

“They played with more energy than us,” Lawrence coach Jason Pellerin said. “We didn’t attack. Part of it was their pressure. Their pressure was very good but it also comes down to how you handle it. We weren’t as mentally tough tonight as we needed to be.”

Although the MPA notes all games have been computed as of Jan 23, Nokomis’ win over Bangor last night has yet to be computed as of 6:50am. Nokomis started season at 3-4, Nokomis has won their last 5 of 6 games...Looks to be a dogfight in A North for the 6,7,8 playoff seeds....11 of 12 teams still alive for shot at playoffs.

Nokomis buoyed by victory at Bangor

...A notable 68-65 win at Class AA Bangor on Monday night is perhaps the best evidence of a turnaround that has the Warriors riding a four-game winning streak and moving up to third place in the Class A North Heal point ratings heading into a clash with No. 4 Gardiner in Newport on Thursday.

The win over Bangor, second in Class AA North with a 6-5 record, featured a 37-point scoring performance by 6-foot senior guard Zach Hartsgrove.

“He had a great night, just one of those nights when he was very active,” said Martin. “Zach did a phenomenal job of running through some screens and his teammates did a great job of setting quality screens and finding him. Everybody helped out in that.”

Nokomis needed a big night from Hartsgrove, who now is averaging 21 points per game this winter, to offset a 32-point performance by Bangor standout Matt Fleming.
