Schenck boys knock off Hodgdon in ‘C’ quarterfinal

... King rose to the challenge, dropping eight points in the first quarter en route to a stellar, 22-point performance for the Wolverines. Justin Thompson picked up the offensive output in the second half, finishing with 23 points to lead all players.

“Chris has been a great asset ever since junior high,” coach Thompson said. “Once he learned to accept he was going to be the No. 2 guy, he excelled. Now, we have a pretty formidable one-two punch between he and Justin.”

Senior Daden Palmer led Hodgdon with 15 points while senior Kevin McAfee added eight and junior Wyatt Foster chipped in seven.

Fort Fairfield dispatches PCHS in ‘C’ boys quarterfinal

... Isaac Cyr led the Tigers with 19 points, while Chris Giberson chipped in 16 and Ryan Player added 11. For PCHS, Bryce Gilbert led the way with 17 points and Dillon Drew added nine.

“Defensively, the team worked really hard today,” Fort Fairfield coach Logan McLaughlin said. “We wanted to limit Gilbert’s touches as much as possible and make him work hard for what he got. We knew he was going to get his points, but we wanted to make him work.”

Last season, the Fort Fairfield boys basketball team came down to Bangor as the No. 2 seed in Class C only to be upset by Hodgdon, 45-38.

Dexter boys hold off Lee Academy in ‘C’ quarterfinal

... Campbell scored a career-high 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots to lead Dexter statistically as he attacked the rim both with his own drives and by grabbing offensive rebounds.

“I usually shoot more threes than I did today,” he said, “but I wasn’t feeling it so I worked my inside game and drew fouls and got to the free-throw line.”

When Campbell went to the line he made the Pandas pay, converting all eight of his tries during the fourth quarter.

“He picked the right time to have his best game of the year,” said Murray. “The foul line’s been a bit of an issue for us this year and he’s 10-for-10 tonight. Obviously it was huge in helping us keep our lead.”

George Stevens boys cruise past Woodland, into ‘B’ semifinals

... Chase’s instant firework — off a lob pass from guard Taylor Schildroth — was just the start of things for George Stevens, who scored the game’s first 19 points before Sabre Lee Phelps finally scored for Woodland with 2:09 left in the opening period.

But the early dunk wasn’t totally spontaneous.

“It started around noon when I had Jarrod and Taylor and Stefan (Simmons) over for a little lunch,” said Mattson, who directed the opening tip to Schildroth.

“We were like, ‘Wouldn’t it be sweet if we did this play!’ and so we drew up that play and we ran it and it worked to perfection.”'

Tournament Report: Current Dexter Boys Basketball Players Earn First Tournament win

The Dexter boys basketball team hadn’t won a tournament game since 2013. None of the boys on the current roster were on that team. Meaning none of the boys had ever won a tournament game before last night. They had played in one, but had yet to experience victory. Which is what made Dexter’s 58-45 win over Lee on Tuesday so special.

Great Job Winthrop, but.... for the past 35 years, I've played in or attended a lot of high school tournament games and I have never seen such a poorly officiated game. One of the 3 officials in this game was absolutely horrible!, by my account he had at least 15 blown calls and about 13 of those went against NYA as opposed to about 2 going against Winthrop. I hope that there is a review process put in place for the officiating crew that results in that man never officiating a meaningful high school game again.
