PRELIM: Kennebunk beats Fryeburg in double overtime
The Rams advance to play No. 1 seed Greely in the Class A South quarterfinals.

... “We had a couple chances to get the lead to double digits,” said Fryeburg Coach Sedge Saunders. “If we’d built it a little more, then we could have used our ability to drive and we would have been the team getting to the line.”

But Lovejoy got loose for his only 3-pointer of the game, burly center Cole Hoffman made one free throw, and Pasieniuk knocked down a 3 after some good ball movement, quickly cutting Fryeburg’s lead to 44-43.

“They were doing a good job of fronting Cam and Sully, and they’re our scorers, everyone knows that,” Kennebunk Coach Barrett Belanger said. “So we started to set some screens to get some reversals and set things up, and we weren’t forcing it.”

Preview: Biddeford basketball to compete in postseason for first time since 2012

BIDDEFORD — The Biddeford boys basketball team is set to compete in the Class A South playoffs for the first time since 2012 after finishing the year with an 8-10 record, good for the No. 7 seed. The Tigers will face Falmouth at the Portland Expo and hope to make a deep run in the upcoming weeks.

After going just 2-52 in the previous three seasons, the Tigers finally broke through and qualified for the postseason. One reason is the experience and dedication of the older players, according to senior Caleb Ball.

“The main difference is the maturity of the group. We are a lot better and the guys that are older are more driven to lead,” said Ball.

“This year the team wants it a lot more, we’re working a lot better together,” added junior Kyle Norton.

Preview: Hampden and Hermon boys prepare for tournament runs

HAMPDEN - As the preliminary rounds of the MPA high school basketball tournament begin, several top teams in the area will have to watch the scoreboard before knowing their opening opponents.

Hampden Academy and Hermon are two of them, both expected to make deep postseason runs. The teams hit the floor for a pre-tournament scrimmage on Tuesday in hopes of keeping their squads in game shape.
