Meeting with Dwight Howard another encouraging sign for Celtics

The Boston Celtics are doing their best to dispel the long-standing notion that big-time free agents won't consider Boston as a destination.

With a meeting already set with this summer's biggest prize in Kevin Durant, the Celtics also have scheduled a face-to-face meeting with free-agent center Dwight Howard, sources told ESPN.

For much of the past two decades, there has been an often-repeated theory that premier free agents won't sign with the Celtics. Boston brass has often countered that the team has never had the sort of cap space to truly pursue the biggest fish on the free-agent market.

Cross Whiteside off list....he's staying in Miami... 4 years ....$98 million

Celts expressing some interest in old Luol Deng...as fall back....31 and on downside of long and solid career.......12PPG...about 6 boards per game...less and less in tank...but a steady solid pro...maybe short term deal...

Another free agency period with the Celtics accomplishing virtually nothing? I do not count signing someone like a Luol Deng as doing "something". The NBA is a star driven league, and the roster as built is full of role players. Getting past the first round is the max ceiling for this team without a top 15 player in the league.

Al Horford seems to be leaning to Celts after good meeting Friday....$113 million for 4 years ...it is my understanding that Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder were crucial in making the case....

Too bad Horford can't make a quick decision and join C's when they meet with Durant tomorrow...his presence would greatly strengthen their case....

It is my understanding Horford will make decision this weekend....
