Love it Speed...nary a year ago 'not so high' on Cal's Brown, now a projected starter in 2nd season. Love to see Hayward choose Boston. Go Celts!

Happy 4th Speed!

Congrats to Danny Ainge, Brad Stevens and the Celtics for landing Gordon Haywood. The pieces of the puzzle are coming together very nicely.

Gordon Hayward and Brad Stevens Have Unfinished Business
The Butler duo are reunited, and along with Boston’s mixture of veteran talent and young prospects, they hope to make the Celtics a contender for years to come. Now comes the hard part.

...Adding Hayward doesn’t get the Celtics to the level they want to be, but it gets them closer. They needed this if they had any hopes of contending in the short term, since their cap space would be absorbed next summer by some combination of Thomas, Avery Bradley, and Marcus Smart. With Hayward locked up, they might need to move off Bradley or Smart or Crowder, in addition to renouncing the rights to other pending free agents.

Boston has a logjam at forward, which is by design. The Celtics have championship aspirations, and as we’ve seen in the last three postseasons, and to beat the Warriors, you need to match their level of versatility. Brown and Tatum might not get the heavy minutes typically seen by top-three picks, but they can develop into their roles as complementary players off the bench. The appeal for the Celtics is, while they won’t be favorites in 2017–18, as Brown and Tatum progress on their rookie-scale contracts, they’ll have a deep roster that can switch positions defensively and attack with a wide range of players on the floor. The Celtics can surround Thomas and Al Horford with forwards, or put two bigs on the floor and supersize their offense by running it through Hayward. Stevens has the personnel to adapt to different types of opponents.

The Celtics aren’t true contenders yet, and now it’s on Danny Ainge to continue pulling the right strings moving forward. The NBA is a high-stakes game, and Ainge is still holding a lot of chips. The decisions he makes moving forward will be a huge factor in determining whether Hayward’s reunion with Stevens will finish the fairy tale they began at Butler. ... 2572bdad4d

That should do it for now. I think we're looking at a starting five of:
Isaiah, Hayward, Crowder, Morris and Horford with Smart, Bradley, Tatum, Rozier, Nader and Zizic off the bench. We signed some euro center too and also have Jackson and Yabasele. That leaves a roster spot for a second rounder or veteran rebounder/rim protector down the road.

Don't forget, we still have 3 first round picks next year should Anthony Davis become available mid-season. :)

Center Aron Baynes reportedly agrees to deal with Celtics

...He could have talked about rebounding machine Andre Drummond. He could have talked about frequent Celtic killer Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. He could have talked about future Boston trade target Marcus Morris – acquired Friday in a deal for Avery Bradley.

But the curious name Stevens kept referencing was backup center Aron Baynes.

Now Stevens will get to coach the 6-foot-10, 260-pounder after Baynes reportedly agree to a deal with Boston on Sunday.

Baynes appeared to confirm on his Twitter account in switching his home affiliation to Boston.

Baynes is expected to receive the $4.3-million room exception for one year.

Baynes gives the Celtics a much needed boost up front with his size and defensive prowess. While the team possesses several wing players who can also play power forward, it was thin on pure centers. The starting center will likely be Al Horford, who is more of a power forward, with the only other true frontcourt presence on the team rookie Ante Zizic. ... th-celtics

Examining the revamped Celtics roster, or, “Combat muscles and women respecters”

And…the Boston Celtics…did a really good-ass job! It wasn’t perfect (because no one’s offseason is; even the Golden State Warriors resigned washed-ass, leg-whackin’ Zaza Pachulia and the sentient Van Wilder character Nick Young). Let’s break it down:

Gordon Hayward: This one had been predicted years in advance, but that doesn’t make it any less positive for the Cs. That fade-headed paleface from Butler can ball, man. Hayward makes the team’s wing depth essentially unimpeachable, offering length that the Celtics backcourt and wing positions largely lacked. His scoring speaks for itself by both basic and advanced metrics. Let’s look at some of it now: ... especters/
