speed: Great to see you back on the MBR Board. Ainge may not be your guy, but he was smart enough to Hire Brad Stevens who has coached the Celtics into being the San Antonio Spurs of the Eastern Conference in 5 seasons.

Draft sign, trade for good human beings with good attitudes and coachable lst, basketball IQ's second, basketball skills 3rd and athleticism 4th.

Regardless of how you feel about Ainge you have got to love Stevens and what he has done directly coming from College. Jackson hasn;t been able to turn around the Knicks, but Ainge has turned the Celtics around or maybe it is just Stevens.

Good to see you back.

CIM

I understand where you are coming from in that the other teams, especially in the Eastern Conference will not or do not seem to want to work with Ainge.

It was Ainge that got Stevens to the Celtics......... It was Ainge that got Isiah Thomas to the Celtics....And Ainge wanted Tatum all along. The plan and the pieces of the puzzle are all coming together beautifully. Other GM's in the league are afraid of Ainge because they know he is a genius and they are afraid he will out smart them. Old RED would be some proud of Danny. Making the Celtics great again. I'm excited already for next season. Ainge and the Celtics will be contenders for the Championship.

AB: I'll go with you over Speed in this situation. I also agree with your entire post, even if Speed disagrees with us on this one.

PAUL GEORGE, GORDON HAYWARD, AND THE NEXT STEPS

The draft is done and free agency is a week away so it’s time to talk about the primary options of the next few weeks. The draft day trade of Jimmy Butler to Minnesota followed by the flurry of rumors about Paul George trades to the Celtics should clarify some things for us.

The first thing to understand is that, while it’s technically possible for the Celtics to clear the space for a max contract free agent like Gordon Hayward or Blake Griffin and then put together enough outgoing salary to trade for George as well, this seems unlikely. The first “problem” is that to match salaries with George as an over-the-cap team Boston would have to send out multiple rotation players on top of the picks that Indiana will actually want. Boston’s rotation may be shaping up to be too deep anyway, so this isn’t necessarily a dead end, but it could mean trading more value for one season of George than the T-Wolves did for two seasons of Butler. Ideally it would need to become a multi-team trade where players like Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley become picks from other teams instead of being packaged on top of picks, but those trades can be harder to put together.

The larger problem would be the luxury tax. In 2018 the team would want to re-sign Isaiah Thomas and Paul George, meaning that just the foursome of those two plus Hayward and Al Horford would have them around the tax line. Filling out the rest of the roster would be prohibitively expensive; potentially reaching $100M just in tax payments. The team could move on from Thomas, but I don’t know if anyone is ready to go quite that “positionless” yet. The long-term tax implications look so dire that I would say this is an either-or decision between George and a max free agent, or a three-from-four from George, a max free agent, Thomas, and Horford.

Peter Vecsey says::
- NBC knew about OJ's behavior
- OJ called from the bronco to speak with Ahmed Rashid

- then goes on about Bob Costas and stories galore

- lots of NBA and draft talk too ...

The Speedo hatred of Ainge has nothing to do with hoops......it's all because Ainge was supposedly rude to him at an AAU event. Good lord, let it go.

Yep, no question he was rude....arrogant....condescending...." How dare this mere plebian dare deign to talk with me, the Great Danny Ainge"....he is indeed an arrogant a$$hole and an absolute $hit....

He is without question the most disliked GM in NBA....no one can smell the guy....which is why it so hard for Celtics to close trades and sign free agents....he sits on his effing assets like Buddha....with a bloated roster....his assets just muck things up....he needs to close deals....shed assets and salary and floor a team with some stars while Isaiah and Horford have good production left in them....

trade Bradley, Crowder, Philly and Memphis 1st round picks for Paul George ( yes it's an over pay but C's have assets to do it, and they need to shed salary and more importantly cut glut of rotation and roster )

Shed salary by letting free agents Olynke, Johnson, Jerebeko et al walk...

Sign FA Gordon Hayward and just get er done...

Starters....Isaiah, Horford, Brown/ Smart, PG, and Hayward ( 4 all stars)
Bench....Smart/Brown, Tatum, Rosier, rookie from SMU, and the two "draft and stash" foreign guys from last year....

Then go beat Cleveland and take Durant, Curry, Green, Thompson to 7 games....
