Balanced Attack Propels 'Cats to 17-0 Win at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) matched her career high of four goals to lead a balanced attack and the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday morning's 17-0 victory against the University of Hartford at Alumni Stadium.

The four points also equaled a personal best for Wooters. Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) both scored three goals; Schafer also contributed three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while the three tallies marked a career high for Smith. Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with personal bests of three assists and five ground balls, and the three points matched her career high.

Starting goalie Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) played 21:32, exited the game with UNH leading 9-0 and did not face a shot. Amanda Gottlieb (Canton, Conn.) played the final 38:28 and stopped all three shots she faced.

Lizzie Suschana (Somers, Conn.) was credited with four ground balls and career-high four caused turnovers. Cat Sennott (Westford, Mass.) finished with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

UNH, with its second road win of the season, improved to 2-0 in America East and 4-6 overall. Hartford is now 1-7, 0-2.

The Matchup
UNH has won all three matchups against UMass Lowell since the River Hawks became a Division I program in the 2015 season.

Trailing 6-4 with 21 minutes remaining, the Wildcats scored six consecutive goals to surge in front, 10-6, with 5:28 to play.
UNH recorded the edge in shots (29-12), draw controls (11-8), ground balls (23-13) and turnovers (17-22).
In the only previous meeting in Durham, UNH was a 16-3 victor at Cowell Stadium in March 2016.

Saturday's game vs. Vermont (at Bremner Field, 7 p.m.) is dedicated to One Love Foundation.

Wooters' Career-High Six Goals Propels 'Cats Past UMass Lowell, 14-5

DURHAM, NH. – Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) scored a career-high six goals to lead the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Wednesday afternoon's 14-5 victory against UMass Lowell at Bremner field.

To go along with her career-high six goals, Wooters also had career highs in points (six) and ground balls (five), as well as a team high of five draw controls.

Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) also had an impressive game with four goals. Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored one goal and matched her personal best of three assists for a career-high four points.

Rebecca Sennott (Westford, Mass.) finished with one goal, an assist, a ground ball, and four draw controls.

UNH goalie Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) made six of her seven saves in the second half.

UMass Lowell was led offensively by Kendyl Finelli with three assists. Starting goalie Courtney Barrett played the first half and stopped 7 of 15 shots on goal. In the second half, Renee Gonzalez allowed six goals and stopped four shots.

UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 3-0 in America East and 5-6 overall. UMass is now 0-3 in America East and 3-8 overall.

Battle of the 'Cats & One Love Foundation Game is April 7

UNH has a 31-8 lifetime record against the University of Vermont and the Wildcats have won each of the last two matchups – 12-9 at home in 2016 and 12-11 last year in Burlington.
Last year at Virtue Field, UNH trailed 11-8 with eight minutes remaining but ended the game on a 4-0 run on goals by Devon Croke (at 7:22), Hope Kissick (710), Rylee Leonard (6:13) and Carly Wooters (4:52). • Recap • Box Score
Vermont had just two possessions after UNH took the 12-11 lead. Kate Clancy made a save with 2:30 to play to end one possession, and Wooters caused a turnover with 33 seconds on the clock to secure the win.
UVM won five consecutive meetings spanning the 2011-15 seasons.
Vermont is the longest standing rivalry in program history; these teams have met annually since 1983, making this season the 36th consecutive year UNH and UVM have faced off.

Schafer Records 100th Career Point in 17-6 Win vs. UVM

DURHAM, N.H. – Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass) scored five goals and recorded her 100th point to propel the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday night's 17-6 victory against the University of Vermont at Bremner Field.

Schafer entered the game with 98 career points and reached the century milestone with her second goal of the game at 26:15 of the first half. She matched her career highs in both goals (five) and points (five) to increase her career totals to 99 goals and 103 points.

Rebecca Sennott (Westford, Mass.) tallied a career-high three assists and scored a a goal for a personal-best four points. Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) scored a career-high three goals and also had an assist for a personal best of four points.

Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.), Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) each scored two goals for the Wildcats. Wooters also recorded a game-high five draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Sexton collected four GBs.

UNH starting goalie Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) finished with six saves and exited the game with New Hampshire leading 14-5 at 20:01 of the second half. Amanda Gottlieb (Canton, Conn.) was credited with one save and yielded one goal.

Vermont was led offensively by Jenna Janes (four goals, one assist). She also corralled four draw controls. Maddy Kuras made 10 saves and also went to the sidelines at 20:01 of the second half. Catherine Green stopped 3 of 6 shots on goal the rest of the way.

UNH won its third consecutive game to improve to 6-6 overall and 4-0 in America East. Vermont is now 4-9, 0-4.

Neyland, Wooters Score Five Goals Apiece in 16-13 Loss at Boston U.

BOSTON – Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) and Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) scored five goals apiece and Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her 100th career goal, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was edged 16-13 by Boston University at Nickerson Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Wooters and Neyland finished with five points; both the five goals and five points marked career highs for Neyland, who also had three ground balls, one draw control and a caused turnover. Wooters was also credited with two GBs, three DCs and three CTOs.

Schafer, who entered the game with 99 career goals, scored her 100th at 17:20 of the second half.

UNH starting goalie Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.), the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week, exited the game with two saves and the Wildcats trailing 10-2 at 7:24 of the first half. Amanda Gottlieb (Canton, Conn.) played 35:33 in relief and stopped 5 of 10 shots on goal and finished with a career-high five GBs.

BU was led offensively by Avery Donahoe (eight goals, one assist), Caroline English (2g, 2a) and Ryann Gaffney (3g). Christine Laible was credited with nine saves.

UNH, which entered the game on a three-game win streak, is now 6-7. BU extended its win streak to three games to improve to 6-6.
