No. 8/9 Wildcats Fall to No. 15 BU, 4-0

...HOW IT HAPPENED

The Terriers struck first at 9:34 of the first period, as Patrick Curry sent a backhander from behind the net to Ty Amonte who ripped a one-timer from the slot that found the back of the net on the blocker side of senior goaltender Danny Tirone to give BU a 1-0 lead.
UNH and BU tallied 12 shots each during the period.
BU added to its lead at 2:59 of the second period as Dante Fabbro ripped a wrist shot from the blue line to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead.
UNH outshot BU 11-8 in the second period.
At 8:00 of the third period, BU extended its lead to 3-0 when Brady Tkachuk sent a wraparound shot on goal that was stopped by Tirone, but Jordan Greenway punched in the rebound for the Terriers.
The Terriers took a 4-0 lead at 13:28 of the third period as Bobo Carpenter fired a wrist shot from the slot that found the back of the net high on the glove side.
The Wildcats were unable to find the back of the net as BU earned the 4-0 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
BU outshot UNH 31-29.
The Terriers and Wildcats each secured 29 faceoffs.
The Wildcats and Terriers each went 0-4 on the man-advantage.
Tirone tallied 26 saves and Adam Clark had one for UNH, while Max Prawdzik recorded 29 for BU.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
Tirone is second all-time at UNH with 2,990 career saves. Kevin Regan (2005-2008) is first with 3,235 saves.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) turned aside 34 shots to post his third shutout of the season while Patrick Grasso (Ankeny, Iowa) and Michael McNicholas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) each tallied a goal and an assist as the 13th-ranked University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated Yale University, 4-0, on Saturday night at Ingalls Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Providence opened the scoring early at 1:01 of the first period as Kasper Bjorkqvist slapped a backhander from the right circle that found the back of the net to give Providence a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats responded at 17:52 of the first period as sophomore Liam Blackburn (Prince George, B.C.) sauced a pass from behind the net to van Riemsdyk, who was waiting below the face-off dot, and his wrist shot beat Hayden Hawkey on the blocker side to even the score at 1-1. Freshman Charlie Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) also tallied an assist on van Riemsdyk's goal.
The Friars outshot the Wildcats 10-9 in the first period.
Providence added another early tally less than a minute into the second period as Erik Foley ripped a wrist shot from the right circle that beat senior goaltender Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) on the blocker side to give PC a 2-1 lead.
With 39.9 seconds remaining in the second period, Providence extended their lead to 3-1 as Sukumaran fired a wrist shot from the slot that beat Tirone on the blocker side. Foley tallied an assist on the goal.
Providence outshot UNH 15-4 in the second period.
At 4:03 of the third period Foley added his second goal of the contest to give Providence a 4-1 lead with a slap shot from the point. Jacob Bryson and Brian Pinho each recorded assists on the goal.
With 8:16 remaining in the third period, Vela fired a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Hawkey high on the blocker side and cut the PC lead to 4-2. Freshman Max Gildon (Plano, Texas.) and senior Cameron Marks (North Vancouver, B.C.) added the assists.
With 3:43 remaining in the game, Sukumaran added his second goal of the night as Robbie Hennessey sent a pass from the boards which found him in front of the goal and he beat freshman Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) to give Providence a 5-2 lead.
Neither team found the back of the net in the final minutes as the Friars secured the 5-2 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
PC outshot UNH, 38-22.
The Wildcats went 0-2 on the power play, while the Friars went 0-4.
Tirone made 26 saves and Robinson made seven while Hawkey posted 20.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
Robinson made his collegiate debut during the third period.
