’Cats look to end their second-half woes

DURHAM — University of New Hampshire football coach Sean McDonnell called last week’s setback at Stony Brook a tale of two halves.

Win or lose, the same can be said for most of the Wildcats’ games this season. They’ve been outscored 96-53 in the second half, including 46-12 in the third quarter where they have been blanked in five of six games.

Leading 24-16, they were outscored 22-0 in the second half against Stony Brook. Despite being shut out in the third quarter, the Wildcats still led 24-22 going into the fourth.

“Haven’t been able to put my finger on it,” McDonnell said of the Wildcats’ third-quarter woes. “Got to do a better job coming out after the half. I thought coming out of the locker room Saturday night was the best we’ve come out of a locker room situation, doing what we have to do on both sides of the ball. Didn’t show on the field. I thought we made good adjustments. Good energy. We felt good being up 24-16 at halftime. Just didn’t add up. We’ve got to find a way to finish games and I’ve talked to the team about that.”
