Politics of Food...

Postby Tom Nolette » Wed Apr 13, 2016 6:11 am

Government has been misleading about nutrition past couple of generations.. Please show 1 significant study that correlates saturated fat with heart disease ..

This guys sums it up:

The Secret Diet of the Fittest Senior Citizen on the Planet

Charles Eugster holds world records at a number of sprint distances… and he’s 96 years old! He may be the “fittest senior citizen on the planet”.

When he’s not sprinting he’s also a “body-builder, a public speaker, a writer, a rower, a wakeboarder, an entrepreneur, and a budding fashion designer, planning his own line in elderly couture.”

Pretty incredible! So what does he eat to stay in shape?

I avoid sugar and eat lots of meat, especially fat. I’ve been on a fat trip lately. Fat! Piles of fat. Yet, I was in a supermarket the other day and was perplexed to find yogurt with zero fat. What on earth is that? The idea of the nutrition pyramid where, at the top, is a little fat and meat, and at the bottom a lot of carbohydrates, is, excuse me, bullshit. Humans are so unbelievably stupid that we have begun to tinker with food. Our theories of nutrition have resulted in a pandemic of obesity. Can you imagine a hunter-gatherer enjoying a low-fat yogurt? Let me tell you this, too: I read a report recently which said that a fatty diet also increases your libido.

He’s clearly not just in good shape, he’s smart too. The whole article about him is an amazing read:

What is natural? Over to you, FDA...

The comment period for the FDA’s probe into ‘natural’ claims has closed, leaving the agency with the unenviable task of sifting through a mammoth pile of submissions from thousands of stakeholders weighing in on the most contentious word in food marketing.

High-fat diet, not low-fat one, is how you lose weight

CNN) – You don’t need to be afraid of fat in food anymore, at least if it comes in the form of extra-virgin olive oil and other items from the Mediterranean diet.

Fat is back, new research shows.

This latest study, released Monday in the new edition of Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, does not give you free reign to chow down on pizza or to have that second dessert, but it does give you license to have that egg for breakfast if you cook it in olive oil, rather than butter, and forgo the side of bacon or toasted white bread.

The study — from scientists looking at the weight and waist circumference of 7,447 people who ate three different diets for five years in a randomized control study — suggests that a Mediterranean diet (versus a low-fat diet, in which you avoid all fat) is more successful in helping you lose a little weight. This is true even if you are older, have type 2 diabetes or are already obese or overweight.

I bring up food in politics .. since 1977 government food pyramid ...

take a look around at the stores ( obesity rampant ).. THIS is a direct result of a couple of generations of eating the 1977 government pyramid way and policies therein ..

Were we obese as a society when we ate local, fresh meats and vegetables from local farms ?

America was healthy prior to big farming ( corn, wheat, process, gmo), big medicine (drugs) and big government ( no explanation needed $ . going to washington = getting rich)

processed food and sugar is the problem to good health ....

Read " The Obesity Code" Dr Fung to understand science of obesity.

More on this later ..

I ask this rhetorically to all of you ...

How do you feel today ?
overweight, joint pain, gut pain ....

Are you pleased when visiting your doctors ?
or do they just check boxes and refer accordingly ie treatment or drug . cholesterol, high blood pressure, . or do they talk about life choices, impact of food, stress, moving physically .

Premise: Each bite of food is either causing inflammation ( pain / fat ) or reducing it !! . a continuation in thought of Dr. Fungs book and an easier read for us laymen is" Deflame"..

Essentially, get back to eating like your grandparents did, local farm food and just don't eat sugar, processed & refined products .. ie any kinds of drinks, bars, etc ..

I'm not trying to sell anything here, but many of us have changed the way we look at food and the science and common sense its not hard to get there ..

Take a look at obese peoples carts at the store .. all processed , in a package, a box,

The DeFlame Diet: DeFlame your diet, body, and mind
Dr. Seaman coined the term “DeFlame” as a simple educational tool to help better understand the benefits of eating healthy anti-inflammatory foods, especially in the context of replacing pro-inflammatory foods with anti-inflammatory vegetables, fruit, nuts, and roots/tubers. He first identified that diet promotes inflammation based on research published in the 1970s and 1980s. Most have only begun to see this relationship in recent years. In contrast, Dr. Seaman has written multiple articles and ..

Obesity has other factors besides processed foods....lack of exercise and larger portions are 2 that stand out.

processed foods crank insulin, the issue with obesity is insulin and insulin resistance... so you are absolutely wrong on part 1 of your statement..

exercise is critical for good health .. exercise is for muscle development and benefits from movement, not weight loss .. food controls weight , not caloric restriction but eating right foods

larger portions of green leafy vegetables is never a problem.. proper amounts of protein, fat and carbs are needed ..

stuffing your face with processed foods of course leads to obesity .. ie any fast food, any bread, wheat, sugar veg oil , package bars, soft drinks, lol

anyone who wants to add to their knowledge base should read the 2 books mentioned above ..

I've been studying in this area for some time and the lowering of inflammation markers is incredible .. ie blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, glucose levels, etc all fall sharply after a few months of no " dietary crack".. wheat, sugar, processed

High blood pressure : take a pill
cholesterol : take a pill
glucose : either high or low = drugs - insulin

see the trend !! heal thyself ... knowledge
