Looks like Ms. Souhlaris had quite the game in defeating South Florida !

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Maine softball team split its doubleheader with Big East-foe South Florida on Tuesday at the USF Softball Field in Tampa. Maine battled the Bulls tough in game one before dropping a 7-1 decision. However, the Black Bears battled back with a 1-0 win in game two. Maine improved to 6-10 on the season.

Alexis Souhlaris was the most valuable player for the Black Bears in game two as she did it at the plate and in the pitching circle. Souhlaris led off the game with a solo homer, which would turn out to be all the support she needed in the pitching circle. It was Souhlaris' sixth home run of the season.

With the 1-0 lead, Souhlaris took the pitcher's circle and turned in a spectacular performance. She worked all seven innings for a complete-game performance, allowing just five hits and two walks. Souhlaris also tallied a strikeout in the win, which was her first of the season.

Freshman Lyndsey Jenkins reached base all three times she stepped to the plate, including collecting a pair of hits and drawing a walk.

Definitely one of the best single game performances by a UMaine athlete in recent memory!

Maine Softball wins two again today. Make that now 5 in a row. They are 10-10 and one win away from matching last years win total.

Exciting team to watch!

Weather is great in Florida and so is the softball. Not much more I can say that the Maine site hasn’t. Two more wins today over Yougstown State and Yale making it 7 in a row with a record of 12-10. Contributions throughout the roster. Next up is U. Penn and Bryant U.

7 wins in a row. I have't heard that said about Maine sports in a while.

Go Maine!

Looking like spring sports may offer some salvation for UMaine sports fans (and an AD ?) !! With four games remaining for their Spring Break trip, the Lady Bears are assured of returning home with a record of .500 or better ! The baseball team wins one of their remaining three (currently 8-6), and they too will return to campus with a record above .500 !!

Softball Steals 1-0 Win From Sacred Heart, Drops 3-2 Decision to SIU Edwardsville
Terren Hall steals home in game one, Alexis Souhlaris hits a home run in game two

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The University of Maine softball team extended its win streak to 10 games with a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart on Wednesday morning in the first contest of a doubleheader at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Black Bears then fell 3-2 in game two to SIU Edwardsville to end the streak. With the split Maine improves to 15-11 on the season.
And the 1-run in the Sacred Heart game was a steal of home as part of a double steal !
