Before the double dribble, the Auburn player grabbed the Virginia player's jersey. So, it could be argued that a foul call was missed before the double dribble occurred.

"MaineBBFan99": Yes, you are correct. The defender grabbed the dribblers shirt when he lost the ball off his foot....should have been called an intentional foul 2 shots and the ball out of bounds at the spot of the foul with more than the 1.5 seconds that was left as the foul happened before the double dribble.

The actual foul happened after the dribbler picked up the ball and dribbled it across half court when the foul was called and Auburn had yet to commit their 7th foul..

Bob, there was an obvious foul that occurred BEFORE the double dribble that was not called and we know that a foul can not cause a violation. ;)

"fafan": Yes, you are correct and as I stated above the foul that was not called was grabbing the dribbler's shirt as he went to get the ball after it bounced off his foot. Grabbing a shirt is an intentional foul so regardless if Virginia was not in the bonus it would have been 2 shots and the ball out of bounds at the spot of the foul.

As you know this play was shown a bunch of times in slow motion from a bunch of different angles. What basketball must avoid is an instant replay in the last minute as was being discussed because of this play and the 3 point play. You saw a jersey grabbed on one angle, I saw an illegal contact, then the double dribble. The bottom line it would be a grave mistake to introduce instant replay as we all know there are so many different things going on that reviewing in slow motion would be a detriment to the game.

"fafan": I agree it has no place in the game. Just like the correction last night when the ball was called TT's ball and the replay showed it went off the TT dribblers fingers and they changed the call.

Checking the replay gives teams another timeout (especially helpful to a team who has no timeouts left) and breaks up the play and can cool the players off if it is a too long of a review.

They experimented in the D-League of the NBA a few years back with 4 officials maybe that is the answer. That would cut the PCA's to 1/4 instead of 1/3.
