Thank Goodness for football and women's basketball!!

It appears it will be a long spring for Maine baseball and softball. Spring football will likely get much more attention then any of those two programs. If not for another great run by the Maine women's program it would have been a very long winter.

After watching some NCAA hockey regionals yesterday it was depressing watching UMass win the Northeast Regional and thinking what could be for the once proud Maine program. I remember saying back when UMaine decided to part ways with Tim Whitehead that they needed to hire top tier coach or not fire Whitehead. Everyone on here balked at that saying Whitehead had go regardless of who was hired. Do the Whitehead haters still feel the same way? Especially knowing now what we know. Whitehead was a class act when he left, and still is. He is one helluva hockey coach too. When he coached at Maine the Black Bears had out this world numbers on the PK and power play! In 2007 they had the best power play in the country and 2nd best PK. The final year Maine made it to Hockey East semifinals they had the best power play in the nation. How was Maine's PK and power play this season? The defense rests your honor!!

I also said back when Red Gendron was hired, that his limited record as a head coach was not impressive never having a winning record. Coach Gendron is no doubt a great teacher of the game as he has been hired by some great programs as an assistant coach. He has two national title rings as an assistant.
It looks like Red will be back next season. Hopefully he and his assistant coaches can at least make it to Boston and the Hockey East semifinals next season.

Seeing UMass in the Frozen Four and us, BC and BU not even making the Dance is just weird and not right.

Throw in UNH as well, having been absent since 07 in the frozen four I think we are past the weird stage. Let's admit it we need to make it to the Hockey East semis before we can even think of making it to the frozen 4. :(
