UMaine Men's Hockey falls to Northeastern, ends season

Postby MattyB » Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:43 pm

UMaine men's hockey goes into playoff mode this weekend

It's playoff time for UMaine hockey, they'll play at Northeastern and Maine will have to win 2 out of 3 games this weekend.

The pressure is on, but that's just what they want.

Frustrating loss by a frustrating team.
Shots on goal - Maine: 42 Northeastern: 32
It's not like Northeastern to be unprepared or not ready to play, but Maine frankly looked like the better team.

and the season ends in similar fashion:

Final from Boston - -

Maine: 1
Northeastern: 2

Unreal effort by the boys. An inch here or an inch there.

Time to start bending the rules I guess!! Would be great but I don't think Maine hockey ever gets back to where it was. The national landscape is changed.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of D1 caliber hockey players in Canada every year. We hear all the time about how football and other sports can't recruit to Orono because of the weather. Kids from Canada probably aren't deterred by Orono weather. How in hell can Maine not recruit to a tournament level? Arizona St. is a playoff team but Maine isn't . No further indictment of this program is necessary. That says it all. Arizona freaking State.

You are exactly right about Canadian recruiting. Gendron & Co. recruit sloppy seconds from the USA. It's a crime that we don't recruit Canada better!

Guite is from Montreal and Alfie is from BC. Is the staff just lazy in terms of recruiting? Should be recruiting 75% Canadian players. Isn’t that how Stanbrook used to get it done?
