Aaron Calixe ave. 9.1ppg for 6-1 Oklahoma!

Former UMaine point guard Araron Calixe who transferred to the Oklahoma Sooners as a graduate recruit last spring has taken advantage of not having to sit out a year because of transferring because graduate recruits are eligible immediately has really stepped into big time college basketball on a very positive note.

Oklahoma is ranked 3rd in the country in Realtimerspi'com's RPI Rankings and have an SOS Strength of Schedule 5th of the 353 D-1 men's college teams. Oklahoma is playing in the Big 12 Conference which is ranked Number 1 in Conference RPI and 1 in SO of the 32D-1 conferences in the country. Quite a big SUCCESSFUL jump from 0-7 Maine's Realtimerspi.com's RPI ranking of 323 and SOS of 292 and the America East Conference that Maine plays in has a conference RPI of 30 and an SOS of 28.

He is averaging 24.7 minutes per game, ave. 9.7 ppg, shooting 37.2% from the floor, 31.6% from beyond the 3 point line and 73.3% from the line. He has averaged 2,7 assists per game, has only committed 1.7 turnover per game, and has 0.6 steals per game.

The biggest thing that Maine misses Calixe for is that they have no one who can take the ball to the basket like Aaron did for Maine. This leads to layups, kick outs for open 3's and getting to the foul line like he did in a Bear uniform the past 3 of 4 seasons as he red shirted one year because of injury. He also was a threat for 3's and that is another thing that he would help Maine as they are only shooting 25.6% for threes and only have 2 players that play regularly that are shooting over 30% for 3's. Moss at 33.3% and White at 32.7%.

Good luck to Aaron and his Oklahoma Sooner Teammates the rest of the way. Certainly looks like we will have a former Maine player to watch in March playing in the Big Dance of March Madness.

"aechamps": Yes I saw that. Dr. G was a good coach, ended up with the best winning % career wise at Maine and only 1 of 2 (Other Brian McCall_ that had a winning career %).

Got to know Dr. John when he recruited one of my players in the late 90's. As good a coach that he was (National D-3 Championship at Rowan-year before he took the Maine job) he is an even better human being.

After tomorrow's games Maine and Villanova could both be 0-8. However, Maine has a better chance of beating St. Peters then LaSalle does of beating Villanova.

"BlueLine": That's realtimerpi.com's RPI of 323. TeamRankings.com has Maine's RPI at 330 AND Ken PomeroyRankings RPI for Maine is 337. That is out of 353 D-1 men's teams.

Of the 3 RPI different rankings of the 9 America East teams Maine is 8th twice and 9th once in RPI of the AE
conference teams..

Thanks for the additional information regarding RPI. Can we get Jackson State on next year’s schedule?

"BlueLine": Good question. However, they are 1-7 having beaten Chicago State 81-68 and ranked in kenpomeroy's rpi ranking of 34 to JS at 351. At least they have won a game.

They also are in the Southwest Conference which is the 8th ranked conference of the 32 in RPI to America East Conference at 30.

Jackson State plays in the SWAC. That conference is rated #29 in the country, 8th in SOS. The SOS stands to reason because every school in that conference plays several money games. Once they get into conference play, the SOS will drop like a rock.

You would never know their record if you visit their website...still lists them at 0-3: https://www.gojsutigers.com/mens-basketball/

"parquetfloor": Thanks for the correction I read Southern Conference as the 8th ranked in RPI in realtimers.pi rankings. Just read it wrong, my bad. Again thanks for noticing my mistake. At my age I seem to be making more and more with each additional year. Now at 81 my pencil rips the paper more because I have to correct more mistakes that I make on paper.
