UMaine men win stat battle vs. Albany but lose 89-79

The Maine men won the battle of the statistics winning 5, tying 1.losing 3 of 9 categories, but the Albany Danes came away with the win 89-79 at New York's state capital Saturday night.

Maine out shot Albany 52% to 41.5% from the floor.
Maine had 31 FGM and Albany 27
Maine had 17 assists Albany 12
Maine's bench had 14 points Albany 10
Maine outscored Albany 44-40 in points scored in the paint
Maine and Albany tied in 3's both shot 6 of 16 for 37.5%
Albany out shot Maine from the line 29-37 for 78.4% to Maine's 11-17 for 64.7%
Albany out rebounded Maine 45 to 26
Albany had 14 turnovers Maine had 19

Albany lead at the half by 13.

Maine had two players in the 20's Calixe with 25 and White with 24. Both career highs for both.

Albany had 4 players in double figures Cremo with 24, Nichols and Charles 16 each and Stires with 14.

The difference in the game which Maine closed the gap to 6 and 4 several times in the early and late going in the second half only the size of Albany's front line was the major difference.

Overall Maine played very well and except for being out rebounded big time 45 to 26 and being out shot from the foul line 37 attempts to 17 and outscored from the line 29 to 11.

Maine is now 3-12 in conference play and 6-24 overall. They complete their AE regular season conference schedule on Tuesday when the play host to first place in AE play 14-1 Vermont at home at the CIC in Bangor.

Vermont will finish lst in the conference regardless of the outcome of Tuesdays, February 27th game and Maine will finish 8th regardless of who wins or loses Tuesday. Then with 3 days in between they play each other again at Burlington on Saturday, March 3rd in the quarter-finals of the America East Tournament.
