Preview: Men’s Hoops Entertains Hartford on Thursday

...A LOOK AT HARTFORD: The Hawks are winners of seven of their last 10 entering Thursday, holding a 3-2 record in conference play. The Hawks opened America East play with an impressive 72-64 win over UAlbany in New York's state capital, but fell in its last matchup to UMBC 78-67, in Baltimore on Monday. The Retrievers held the Hawks to shoot 34.5 percent from the floor (19-55) and 24 percent (6-25) from long distance. While the Hawks shot poorly against UMBC, Hartford was on fire the previous game against Binghamton on Jan 13. Tyler Weatherington led the charge with 34 points on a superb 12-of-14 shooting from the field, including a near perfect 10-of-11 from 3-point land. The Hawks combined to shoot 18-for-23 from long distance in the contest. John Carroll leads Hartford with 16.8 points per game, while Jason Dunne puts in 14.8 per contest, and J.R. Lynch adds in 12.5 per game. The Hawks like to shoot from distance, ranking 55th nationally in 3-pointers taken, while earning a 74th ranking in the country in 3-pointers made. Dunne has made the 33rd most 3-pointers in the nation this season, with 55 so far. Hassan Attia averages over two blocks per contest, with 40 swats in 19 games.

Not going to bother to do a complete write up of this game tonight. All I can say is Maine led 11-0 3 minutes into the game and at the half they were down 38-33 a swing of being outscored 38 to 22 the remaining 17 minutes of the first half.

Second half Hartford was up 24 at one time then Maine cut it to 12 only to go behind by 21 again and finally lose by 18.

Hartford came out and outscored Maine 18-2 for 56 to 35 lead in the first 7 minutes and lead once by 24 in the second half.

Maine shot poorly again from the 3 point line on 5 for 29 for 17.2% and took 29 of 65 FGA's as 3's for 44.6% of their FGA's as 3's.

Calixe only Maine player in double figures with 21 points. ER didn't start and only played 15 minutes scored 7 points.

Hartford had 6 players in double figures.

Maine falls to 1-5 in conference play, 4-17 overall and 2-17 versus D-1 opponents.
