Maine @ Vermont Men's basketball Stats and Rankings

Postby bcbc55 » Mon Jan 15, 2018 1:01 am

After playing a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde first half this past Saturday when Maine men only scored 10 first half points in an 84-66 loss to the Albany Danes on their home court @ the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Trailing 48-10 at the half, the lowest first half total in UMaine men's basketball history since the 50's that I know of .Maine bounced back and out scored Albany 56-36. However, they won the wrong half.

Now they jump right back into the AE wars as they travel to the top team in the America East Conference, the Vermont Catamounts, the dominant team the past 6 years in the conference. Vermont is the 67th ranked team in RPI Team with a SOS (Strength of Schedule) ranking of 197 compared to Maine at 315 in team RPI and a SOS ranking of 285 out of 351 D-1 teams that are ranked.

The America East Conference RPI ranking is 24th and their SOS ranking is 31 out of 32 ranked D-1 conferences.

Team Stats Comparison:
..........................Vermont..Maine
FG%.......................49.3%.....39.5%
FS%........................72.3%.....65.8%
3pt%.......................41.3%.....29,8%
% of 3's as FGA's.........39.6%......43.0%
Rebounds per game.....32.4.......36.6
Assists per game.........13.9.......12.4
Turnovers per game....11.0.......15.4

Double figure scorers
Vermont..Lamb 16.0, Bell-Haynes 12.9, Dunbar 12.7 nd Henson 11.0

Maine..Calixe 15.4

All rankings and stats were take from Realtimerpi.com rankings

Vermont is 3-0 in first place in the AE Conference and Maine is in last place at ninth at 1-3.

Vermont is 13-5 overall and Maine is 4-15

Maine is just 2-15 in D-1 games

Vermont is heavily favored by TEAMRANKINGS as they only give UMaine a 1.6% chance of pulling up what would be considered a real truly big upset.

Game time is 7:00pm, tomorrow Monday, January 15 known nationally as Dr. Martin Luther King Day.

Postby bcbc55 » Mon Jan 15, 2018 10:49 pm

Vermont showed why they are 4-0 in America East Conference, ranked in the top 100 D-1 teams and the odds on favorite to repeat again this season as the conference champion in the regular and post seasons as they dropped UMaine to 1-4 in conference play, 4-16 overall, 2-16 vs. D-i opponents with a easy 83-59 win at Burlington.

Vermont had three players in Double figures, Urguhart with 21 & 5 rebounds, Bell-Haynes with 18 and 5 assists, and Henson with 16, 3 rebounds, 2 assists. Maine had Calixe with 21 and Er with 18 lead the Bears.

When Main e went 1-2-2 Zoe mid way thru the 2nd half Vt. killed them inside and forced Maine back to man.

Maine again "lived and died by the three".

Maine returns to action on this coming Thursday, January 18th when the entertain Hartford at home at the CIC in Bangor.

Right now Maine is fighting to not finish 9th as the 9th place team does not make the tournament this year as there is not 8-9 play in game because there are 9 teams (UMass-Lowell is now eligible for the first time since they joined the conference 4 years ago) eligible to make the 8 tourney spots.

Calixte, Er Combine for 37 Points in Hard Fought Loss at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Down by just 10 points with less than four minutes to go in the second half, the Maine Black Bears could not prevent a late run by Vermont, falling 83-62 on Monday night at Patrick Gymnasium.

Maine drops to 4-16, and 1-4 in the America East, while Vermont improves its overall record to 14-5 and 4-0 in conference play with the win.

5 assists for Maine really jumps out at me. It's hard to make shots when you have to create them all individually. Maine average 77 points per game in their 2 D1 wins and somewhere in the low 60's in their 14 losses. They desperately need someone who can create offense. I heard a certain Southern Maine point guard had 6 assists in the first quarter of a game last night and was making passes so spectacular the opposing teams fans were applauding. Oh well, that ship has probably sailed and we have at least four more years of the same old, same old to look forward to. :(

"fromthebench": Put White or Lowndes at point guard as Araujo can't create well, so put Calixe at wing point so he can start from the wing live and create for someone else, or White/Lowndes can penetrate to Calixe's side an create for him. Of course, it doesn't help that they have no inside game to create the inside-outside game.

Don't have to wait four more years of the same thing as Walsh will be gone or should be gone after this year unless he happens to win the America East tournament and Maine qualifies for the first time ever in the school's history to the "BIG DANCE".

Correction 16 D-1 losses not 14.
