Todays UMaine women's game vs. Vermont game was a great example of a team that had a good size advantage and a skilled 6'3' post player not having the correct floor spacing to get the ball inside correctly against a UMaine team that played excellent half-court defense and not knowing how to get the ball inside effectively against Maine's defense.

Maine played well today even without Julie Brosseau. Sutton Millan and Saar really took over the game offensively sparking a 64-55 win.

Millan had a double double again with 23 points and 10 rebounds, Sutton 15 points and 5 rebounds and Saar had 11 points and some nice assists. Crymble had 21 for VT. and is an exceptional young post player. Her problem was the Maine defense and Vermont not adjusting to get her more offensive touches in the paint, especially seeing that she is an outstanding foul shooter. She should have been getting an offensive touch on every Vermont possession before Vermont took a FGA unless it was a layup. She certainly would look good in a Maine uniform as that is there weakest player position.

Score by quarters
Vermont 12 25 39 55
Maine 14 33 49 64

Maine shot 44.1% from the floor on 26 of 65, Vermont was 19 for 43 for 40%.

From the line Maine only got 4 attempts made 2 for 50% while Vermont went 13 for 16 for 81.3%

From beyond the ARC Maine was 10 for 27 for 37.0% and Vermont was 4 for 12 for 33%.

Maine took 27 of their 65 FGA's as threes for 41.6% while Vermont took 12 of 43 for 27.8%

Assists Maine 14 of 26 FG's made and Vermont was 8 of 19 FG's made

Rebounds Maine 32 Vermont 35

Turnovers: Maine 4 Vermont 12

Points in Paint Both 26

Maine goes to 3-2 in Conference play as does Vermont

Maine's next game is Thursday, January 18th as they are on the road at Hartford for a 7:00pm game time.

Millan propels UMaine women past Vermont

...“A lot of players stepped up today,” said Millan.

“I was proud of our team,” said UMaine interim head coach Amy Vachon. “We talked a lot today and yesterday about about overcoming adversity. We got hit with some different things in the Albany game (64-50 loss on Saturday) and we didn’t respond that great.

“Today, without Julie and having some kids sick, I thought they really focused in on what we needed to do and, offensively, they played real well together. It was a good team win,” added Vachon, whose team lost Brosseau to her ankle injury just three minutes into the Albany game.

Black Bears score their tenth win of the season

Bangor, Maine -- Blanca Millan tallied her second double-double of the season as the University of Maine women's basketball team defeated visiting Vermont, 64-55 on Monday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.
