Women's Basketball Returns to UAlbany for AE Title Game Rematch

...SCOUTING UALBANY:
UAlbany, 5-1 at home this season, enters action at 2-1 in the league after coming from behind to defeat Stony Brook on the road in overtime, 72-68. Tiana-Jo Carter led the way in the victory with a career-best 22 points. The Great Danes are led by the league's third-highest scorer in Jessica Fequiere who enters play averaging 18.3 points while also leading the Danes in rebounding (6.0) and steals (2.2). Tiana-Jo Carter is adding double-figures at 10.5 points per game while the offense runs through Mackenzie Trpcic, the league's leader in assists (5.8).

UAlbany enters with the league's highest scoring offense, averaging 70.0 points per game and check in sixth in scoring defense, allowing 61.8 points. Maine must take care of the ball against UAlbany who leads the league in turnovers forced at 22.7 (12th best nationally). Maine, which ranks highly in the league throughout all 3-point categories, will face a UAlbany defense which ranks eighth out of nine in the league in 3-point defense (32.8). The Great Danes are the leagues highest rated offensive rebounding team, averaging 16.1 offensive boards, and check in with an America East leading +4.6 rebounding margin.

A GLIMPSE INTO THE UALBANY SERIES:
Maine and UAlbany will square off for the 37th time in history with the Black Bears holding a slim 19-18 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams, which have met in each of the last two America East Championship games, will be facing off for the first time since UAlbany's 66-50 America East title victory on March 10, 2017. UAlbany has won two-straight in the series, taking both meeting on its home court a year ago. Maine's last victory in the series came at home a year ago when it defeated the Danes 84-71 in Bangor. Maine's last win at UAlbany came on Jan. 25, 2015, a 56-42 victory. Maine is 8-10 all-time in Albany. Blanca Millan enters play averaging 13.0 points against the Great Danes, totaling double-digits in two of her three contests including a 26 point effort in Maine's 2017 win.

Maine up 18-17 after one. Looks like they will need to win this without Brosseau as she is on the bench with her leg elevated and ankle wrapped :o

After going down 28-23 Maine with a nice run to take a 35-32 lead into the half. Really impressed with the bench-McVicker, Johnson and Bara(sp). Sars having trouble w/ pressure and McVicker did a nice job filling in. Sutton and Milan playing huge as usual.

Agreed on Maine's bench coming up big.

Saar has really struggled recently and Wadling keeps making the same bad passes & dumb fouls game after gme. :|

Millan is SO smooth....a joy to watch. Sutton's head is in the game which is good for Maine. All that being said...this will be a difficult game for Maine to win without Brosseau. Maybe Blanca will carry the team on her shoulders & have her first 30 point game! :o

Trailing at half time 35-32 Albany held Maine to just 19 second half points and outscored Maine in the second half 36 to 19 to register the 14 point win.
.........1..2..3..4
Maine 18 35 44 54
Albany17 32 50 68

Albany was lead by Fequiere with 35 points and Carter added 12. For Mane Millan had 17 and Saar had 11.

Maine was 21 of 48 from the floor for 43.8%. Albany 50% on 26 of 52

Maine Shot just 3 for 17 for 3's for just 17% while Albany went 7 for 13 for 53.2%

Maine took 17 of their 48 FGA's as threes for 35.4% while Albany only took 13 if 52 FGA's as threes for 25%

Maine was 9 for 12 from the line for75% and Albany went 9-13 for 63.2%

Maine committed 19 Turnovers Albany 15

Julie Brosseau, the Bears second leading scorer behind Blanca Millan, only playing in the first 3 minutes because she suffered an ankle injury and did not return certainly did not help the Bears performance especialy in the scoring and 3 point shooting departments.

"Figures don't Lie" as the stats show just how Much Albany out played Maine in every statistical category in today's game but foul shooting.

Maine falls to 2-2 in the conference 9-8 overall and 7-8 against D-1 competition.

Maine's next game is on Monday, January 15 at 1:00p on Martin Luther King Day when they entertain Vermont.

Tough loss for the Black Bears. Brosseau, the leading 3 point shooter in the conference, going down early in the 1st was a big loss. Hopefully her injury is not too serious. This combined with some unforced turnovers, cold shooting in the second half, and Fequiere having the game of her life led to Albany's home win. Albany's always a tough place to play, and they proved today why they've won 6 consecutive titles.

Tom: Difference is there is no Sigi Koizar. Saar is just to small for D-1 point guard. Surprised that opponents haven't taken advantage and posted her up on the block. Maine does not to make the needed changes or adjustments when needed. Experienced coaches playing Maine have an advantage.

Watched all the games on line and Maine's lack of playing any size other than Wadling who is to small for a post player and Johnson is not offensive threat.

They are a "live by the three or die by the three"team and today they died on 3-17 from beyond the arc for 17%. 5 of their 3 attempts were NBA balls "Nothing But Air" or were Buffalo Bills FG attempts missed.."wide right".

They also have no inside post up game or not inside outside game to get better 3 looks. They were taking 43.8% of their FGA's as threes coming to today's game and that is way too many for a team that is shooting just over 30% from beyond the arc.
