Maine finally gets a win by coming back from behind at Binghamton. Trailing 34-27 at the half Mane rallied to outscore Bing 49-37 in the 2nd half to win the game 76-73 for their first D-1 win since beating Quinnipiac in December after losing 8 straight to D-1 opponents.
Ilker Er had a career high 23 to lead the Bears, while Araon Calixe added 18 and Isaih White had 13. Show with 20 and Bruce had a dozen.
After going 2 for 9 from behind the arc in the first half for 22.2% they turned their 3 point game around in the second half going 5 of 12 for 41.7% to end up at 33.3% on 7 for 21. Meanwhile Binghamtpn shot Maine right back in the game by hitting just 6 for 22 for 27.3%.
From the floor Maine was 26-54 for 48.1% while Binghamton had 26 of 62 for 41.7%.
From the line Maine was an excellent 17 of 22 for 77.3% to Bing's 15 of 21 for 71.2%
Maine had 12 assists of the 26 FG's made as did Binghamton 12 on 26.
Maine had 18 turnovers, Bing had 18.
Maine had 37 Rebounds Bing had 36.
Maine really played well in the second half. Had much better shot selection then they did in the first half.
Their defense in the second half really improved their offense as they really clamped down and made good adjustments on the defensive end which got them into a real team oriented offense for the second half.
MAINE actually went inside to Ilker Er as he only scored 6 of his points on 3's. and they were more patient with their 3's in the second half resulting in their much better shotting of 3's in the second half which really helped turning the game around.
They played well in the second half of a close game just as they did against Stonybrook. Only having to recover from a 7 point deficet at half time as Maine came roaring back for the win and once they had the lead they held on to complete the day win their first conference game and are now at .500 at 1-1.
Some other pluses today was they got to the foul line more and scored 34 points in the paint.
Next game is Wednesday, January 10 when they finally return home to the CIC in Bangor to host UMBC.
