Is this RPI , etc stuff just a hobby or do you honestly believe that it matters? The men's SOS has to be near the bottom of all D-1 considering they play2 games vs D3 teams and now playing 1 win Columbia. So, what is your end game on these rankings? just for gee whiz stuff? Maine plays in a 1 bid league. they could have the worst RPI in the country but if they get lucky in March, they still get in the tournament.

thebam: Just a hobby, something to do. NCAA does no count non-D-1 games in RPI, but they do count non D-1 games for stats which certainly pad the stats for teams like Maine. They shouldn't count the stats for non D-1 games if they are not counting them for RPI which is used in seedings and selecting teams to the big dance.

With SOS not counting non-D-1 games UMaine's SOS is 269 in Realtimersp.com's SOS and 168 in Pomeroy's SOS.

Don't know why there is such a difference in 101 points between the two SOS rankings.

Here's the difference: Real Time RPI uses a formula that is as similar to the NCAA's as it can be.
Pomeroy has his own formula that doesn't resemble the NCAA's.

I don't believe that the NCAA actually produces an RPI until just prior to the tournament. I'll stand corrected, if that's inaccurate.

Also, the NCAA recognizes that programs have figured out how to manipulate the system to some extent. Reports are that there could be new metrics in place starting next season to help select at-large teams and for seeding purposes for the NCAA Tournament.
