Trailing 40-15 at the half mainly because they went 1 for 15 from beyond the arc then slowed down the 3 point game in the 2nd half as they only took 6 and hit 4 to outscore Mass 48-34 to cut the final score to 74-63 in UMass's favor.

UMass shot 51.9% from the floor on 27 of 52. Maine went 24-54 for 44.4%.

UMass was hot from beyond the arc on 13 for 24 for 54% to maine's 5 for 21 for 23.8%.

From the line UMass went 7-7 100% and Maine was 10-17 for 56.8%.

Maine committed 12 turnovers UMass 13
UMass had 31 rebounds Maine 27

Maine had 16 assists to UMass 22

Maine outscored UMass in the paint 34 to 12 despite UMass's size

UMass had 4 players i double figures Pierre with 25 on 7-9 3's, Pipkins 15, Hines and Hollaway 10 each. For Maine Ilija S. had 11 and Fleming 10.

Maine took 39% of their FGA's as 3's while UMass took 46.1% of their FGA's as 3's.

Maine got into the big first half hole because they went 1-15 from beyond the arc. When they cut back their 3 attempts to just 6 they started to mount their comeback by outscoring UMass by 14 48-34 in the second half.

After half-time Maine seemed to come out relaxed, took better shots, did not rush the play as much and gave up on using 3's unless they got real good open looks. Maine was a much better team in second half because they made better basketball decisions such as better shot selection better floor game, cut down turnovers, etc.

Could have been MAINE MEN'S BEST HALF OF THE SEASON so far against D-1 teams as UMassachusetts was ranked 147 in the Pomeroy team RPI rankings to Maine's 338 going into the game out of the 351 D-1 teams. UMass plays in the 10th ranked Atlantic 10 conference in RPI while Maine plays in the America East Conference ranked 30th out of 32 D-1 conferences.

Maine also had 16 assists on 24 hoops much improved over last game when they had just 4 assists on 18 hoops. Better ball movement.looking for teammates first, their own shot second and more patience especially in the second half.

Maine's final non conference game is a week from tomorrow at Columbia of the Ivy league. Maine falls to 3-11 and UMass. moves to 7-6. America East Conference play starts on Wednesday, January 3rd when they open up AE play at Stonybrook.
