If you live by the 3, you may also die by the 3. When a team is hot, they're hot, when they're not they're not.

UMaine women died and they were not hot from beyond the arc as the fell to Duke 69-39 coming off a 40 point 83-43 lost to Mississippi State, Maine averaged 41 points a game and gave up 76 points a game in these 2 losses against top ranked teams. Mississippi State plays in the top ranked RPI conference and is the 3rd ranked RPI team of 349 in the country while Duke is at 50 as a team and playing in the 2nd ranked Atlantic Coast Conference while Maine's AE conference is ranked 24th and Maine is at 77 despite these 2 tough one sided losses. Their strength of schedule and their opponents strength of schedule is what keeps them in the top 100 teams in the country. These team and conference RPI's are taken from realtimerpi.com.

Tonight at Cameron Stadium at the Duke Campus, the Maine women over used the 3 tonight taking 43 of their 65 FGA's as threes which is 66% AS THEY MADE ONLY 6 OF 43 FOR JUST A DISMAL 13.9%. They were 7 for 22 from the floor for their 2 point attempts for just 31.9%. For the game they shot 13 for 65 overall for 20%.

They broke the record for most 3 attempts in a game which was 41 set in 2014 vs. UMBC.

This is the second consecutive game that the Maine women have really struggled from the 3 point line. They were 3 for 20 against Mississippi State for 15%. So in the past two big losses by 40 and 30 points they are a combined 9 for 63 from 3 point line for a meager 14.3% and have taken 63 - 3 point attempts out of 114 total FGA's for 55.7% of their FGA's have been 3's in the past two losses.

Teams that overuse the 3 need to be reminded that the 3 is great when they are going in, but when they are not going in you might want to attempt more 2's.

Might Maine have been unable to get good looks from 2-point range because it played an opponent with bigger, strong, faster athletes who could defend?
Duke is a top 20 team nationally. The heights of its top seven players: 6-foot-5, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 and 5-9.

Might it be that those looks from 3-point range were the only ones Maine could get because of a vastly superior opponent playing outstanding defense?

As usual, you're very good at throwing up numbers and coming to an insupportable conclusion.

I suppose you'll respond that this was a "winnable" game had Maine followed your advice and pounded the ball inside all night long.

Your "friend," though, won't respond.
