Freshman guard sidelined as grueling UMaine women’s schedule continues

...Vachon said if Saar can’t play, UMaine will “do it by committee. Any of our five guards can bring up the ball. Our offense isn’t predicated on just one person.”

Saar is averaging 7.6 points and a team-high 3.6 assists in 29 minutes per game.

One of the players who picked up the slack was sophomore guard Julie Brosseau, who was named to the all-tournament team and was the America East Co-Player of the Week.

Brosseau had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Kennesaw State after notching 20 points, four rebounds and two assists in the loss to Miami.

“She had a fantastic weekend,” Vachon said. “She has been working really hard on her shot and has been doing a lot of different things for us.

Women's Basketball has been off to a strong start this season. Thanks, in no small part to player Tanesha Sutton. Check out our feature piece about Tanesha here to find out how she ended up at Maine, and the one restaurant she wishes was open in Orono! https://buff.ly/2AkCBn1

Maine women's basketball embracing road challenges

...We really haven't had all that much time to prepare. We traveled all day [Monday], and had a short practice today," Maine women's basketball interim head coach Amy Vachon said Tuesday. "But they know what to expect."

Vachon is referring to what he team will see when they face the Toledo Rockets Thursday, followed by Ohio St. this weekend. It's the second-consecutive far road trip for Maine, which is coming off a successful slate in Miami as part of the school's Thanksgiving tournament.

Looks like this game will be on ESPN3 as well (but strangely, it doesn't seem the Ohio State game will be... :| )

Nice student article on Tanesha. So glad she ultimately made the decision to come to Maine!

Regarding Dor, it's a bummer that she may not be able to play tonight, but I'm totally fine with her taking her time for recovery. It's way more important that we have her completely healthy come conference time.

Maine 35 Toledo 26 at the half. Had a lead of 15 at one point. Great half for Brosseau with 16 pts. Have not seen many girls who can shoot a step back shot, very impressive. Maine came out with great defensive pressure. Will be interesting to see if Maine can hang onto this lead.

fafan: Maine scores 28 points in 1st 10 minutes and then scores only 7 in the 2nd 10 minutes are very lucky that Toledo has not shown they can handle Maine's zone in the first half.

Maine held Toledo to 9-23 from the floor for 39.7% while shooting 16 for 33 themselves for 48.5%.

From beyond the arc Maine is 3 of 9 for 22.2% and Toledo 3 of 8 for 37.5%.

Maine has not had a foul shot while Toledo went 5-8 for 62.5%

Maine had 10 turnovers to Toledo's 11.

Toledo had 21 rebounds Maine 19.

Assists 8 a piece.

Brosseau had 14 lst quarter points and 2 in the 2nd quarter to lead Maine with 16 point and Toledo has no player in double figures.

Maine took the lead mainly on Toledo turnovers which Maine turned into fast break layups and also on back door cuts for layups. Toledo really poor defensively in first quarter to fall behind by 15 points.
===================================================Final Stats:
Maine scores just 26 points in the last three quarters after scoring 26 in the first 10 minutes. You could tell as the game went on that Toledo was going to win this game.
