Georgetown 40 Maine 24 at the half. Maine lucky that Geogetown has not really taken advantage of their size over Maine. Calixe has 10 for Maine at the half.

Final Georgetown 76 Maine 55.

As hot as Maine was in the first half against Quinnipiac Sunday afternoon 10-14 lst half 4-9 second half 14-23 overall they were just as cold tonight especially in the first half as they were 0 for 10 in first half and 4 of 13 in second half 4 for 23 overall for 17.4%

"Live by the 3 die by the three". Maine died tonight. They "lived" last Sunday afternoon.

It's just roll the dice offense.

Maine is now 1-6 Georgetown goes to 5-0.

Maine goes 22-60 from the floor for 36.6%. GT went 25-54 for 46.3%.

Maine 4 of 23 from beyond the arc 17.4%, GT 4 f 18 22.2%

Maine went 7 for 10 from the line for 70%, GT 22 of 29, 75.7%

Maine and GT each had 35 rebounds

Maine 8 assists GT 13

Calixe led Maine with 17, Er had 13

Bench point: Maine 32 GT 19

Turnovers: Maine 18, GT 12

Points in Paint: Maine 26, GT 40

GT had 5 players in double figures, Johnson 18, Govan 16, Derrickson 12, Blair 11 and Mulmore 10.

Maine is at Fordham on Saturday at 2:00pm.

Although it is getting away from them now, Maine has shown much more fight in the second half.

Hoping we don't have another injury issue...Trae Bryant DNP in 2nd half so far. Some guys are starting to separate themselves in a fight for minutes. Er and Lowndes have come to play and Ashley has been solid.

mainejeff: I still believe it is because he is playing out of position. He is not a back-to-the-basket player, he is a face -the-basket-player.

When he gets the ball low, which is not too often he forces to get his shot off against bigger players.

The offense they are running with the post player at either elbow or higher is really just being a screener off the ball, and too the ball for all the guards is a disaster so far.

After tonights game Maine dropped back to below 30% for 3's they are at 28.5%.

They lived by the 3 and lived against Quinnipiac 14 for 23 61% and they lived by the 3 and died by the 3 yesterday against Georgetown 4-23 for 17.4%.

It is a roll the dice offense, when their hot they're hot (1 game vs. Qunnipiac their 1 win) and when they're not (other 6 games their 6 losses) they are not. 1 for 7 is 14.3% not good odds so far.

MBB at Georgetown University
L 55-76

Calixte Shines in Loss to Georgetown

WASHINGTON – The UMaine men's basketball fought hard against BIG EAST foe Georgetown, but ultimately fell to the Hoyas, 76-55 on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena. Aaron Calixte led the Black Bears offensively with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.

Calixte collected five rebounds, a steal, and only turned the ball over twice in 33 minutes played. Four of his six field goals came on layups, as the redshirt junior often converted contested drives to the hoop into points. He has tallied at least 17 points in each of his last four games, and reached double-figures in scoring in six of seven games this season.

Off the bench, Ilker Er added 13 points and caromed a team-high six rebounds, while Dennis Ashley contributed eight points on an efficient 3-for-5 shooting from the floor. Vernon Lowndes Jr. registered six points, three rebounds, two blocks and three steals in 29 minutes played.

Maine (1-6) fell behind early, as Georgetown (5-0) embarked on an 11-2 run to start the game to force an early Maine timeout. The Black Bears slowly clawed back into the game, climbing back coming within 11 points at 25-14 after Calixte's second layup of the contest. The Hoyas eventually took a 40-24 lead into halftime.

Coach, I assume you watched the game and saw how much bigger, quicker and athletic the Georgetown team was especially their bigs. When you are outmatched like that I think anytime Maine had an open look they should take it regardless if it was a two or three. Unfortunately many possessions were 3's that were forced because of the shot clock and the failure to create any open looks. The overall stats would be skewed because of this.
I was impressed with Aaron Calixte and his ability to beat his man and get to the hoop over the bigs as well.

I agree Er and Lowndes look good as well and Fleming does seem out of sorts but continued to scrap and had a rebound where it was blown out of bounds incorrectly :(
