Preseason top 25 for FCS, Can't believe UNH at #3 but that would be a great way to start the season with a win over the # 3 team in the nation ;)
5 CAA teams in the top 25, we play 3 of them, UNH, Nova#11 and Elon #10

This is huge! An experienced hog up front! I would say zero chance he doesn't start week 1.

Recruit from the College of Canyon Community College vs FBS transfers like JMU gets seem to be quite different(see below). I am not a huge supporter of transfers but certainly know there is a place for them. I know this lineman is a big guy just hope he has what it takes to play at this level.

David Eldridge, Sr, WR, 2017 transfer from UVA. 2016 UVA 2 deep, 2 starts. JMU 9 starts last season. Likely starter.
-Marcus Marshall, Sr, RB, 2017 transfer from GA Tech. GT's leading rusher 2015-2016. JMU's leading rusher last season. Co starter.
-Ben Dinucci, rJr QB, 2018 transfer from Pitt. Started 6 games Pitt last season. Likely starter.
-Jawon Hamilton, rSo RB, 2018 transfer from UCF. Started at UCF as a true Fr 2016, leading rusher. Injured/DNP last season.

-Darius Carter, rSr, DE, 2016 transfer from UVA. Started last 2 seasons, last season 3rd team All CAA.
-Ron'Dell Carter, rJr DE, 2017 transfer from Rutgers. JMU 2 deep last season. Likely starter.
-Landan Word, Jr LB, 2017 transfer from UVA. 2016 UVA 2 deep, 2 starts. JMU 2 deep last season. Likely starter.
-Paris Black, rJr DE- 2018 transfer from Wake Forest. last 2 seasons on Wake Forest 2 deep. 2 deep/possible starter.
-Matt Terrell, Jr DE, 2018 transfer2017 JUCO/2016 UVA- played at UVA as a true Fr. 2 deep/possible starter.
-Wayne Davis, rFr Safety, 2018 transfer from Ohio St- Probably 2 deep/possible starter.

Never heard of Demian Thomas and did not see him on the roster, anyone know if this is a loss?
This may have been the quietest offseason ever Maine, have not heard anything about offseason practices, maybe no news is good news ;)

Did see this on AGS on rating CAA recruits. Right now JMU is in a class by themselves plus they have 8 FBS transfers, how do we compete with that???

Stumbled across this old news from 4 months ago (2/19). Didn't see it posted on here earlier. If it was on another thread, my apologies. FWIW:

“FCS RECRUITING: Top 40 CAA Recruits
*How did we come up with our ranking list below? Simple -- it's subjective, but all recruiting rankings are that way. We combined 247Sports, Rivals, the players' offer lists and our own thoughts to come up with our version of the FCS recruiting rankings. We provide some of their other top offers in the charts. This is our third year doing this.

*We don't include junior college or 4-year school transfers in any of this work. This is strictly incoming high school graduates....”
https://herosports.com/fcs/recruitin...018-class-ajaj

By my count:
JMU: 9 (7 of the top 14)
VU: 6
UD: 4
SBU: 3
Elon:3
W&M: 3
URI: 3
UNH: 2
UR: 2
Maine: 2
TU: 2
Albany: 1

I realize recruit rankings are a complete crapshoot, but it goes to show that JMU, in addition to the transfers is getting a lot of quality HS recruits, at least on paper.. Of the 15 HS recruits, according to their recruit profiles, 12 had a I-A offer, 10 of them multiple I-A offers, 3 with a P5 offer..

Not a big loss in my opinion. Thomas would've been a back up and special teamer again. Maine is set at safety with Darius Hart and Erick Robertson. Jeff DeVaughn will see a lot of time and Mozai Nelson is an experienced back up coming back from injury.

Nice article in the BDN about the change in transferring rules for D1 players. As the article states the football team really has not lost many players due to transferring except for Josh Mack who was the leading FCS rusher and is going to Liberty who Maine plays next year.
The Mack issue got sort of messy b/c of his grades but hopefully this does not become the rule but rather the exception. This team is definitely more like a family and you bide your time to get your playing time and it has worked well for Jack and Coach H. I would like to see us pursue transfers if do not have the recruits at a particular position.

Now the men's basketball team is a different story.

I didn’t renew my season tickets. The schedule is just not worth it. Might reconsider in the future if they start scheduling more home games before Columbus Day Weekend.

But you will go to the UNH game, as the streak is gonna end. How is that for being optimistic ;)

Sounds like the defense will be better this season. They added some depth at different positions.
