Latvian winger making immediate impact for UMaine men’s hockey team

...“Now this feels more home to me than (Latvia) because I have been here such a long time,” he added.

Tralmaks certainly made a smooth transition on the ice.

He had 20 goals and 14 assists in just 20 games for the Bandits’ 16-Under team during the 2013-14 season before graduating to the Bandit’s 18-Under team the following year and to their Junior Bandits’ Eastern Hockey League team in 2015-16 where he was named the EHL’s Premier Division Most Valuable Player.

He had 28 goals and 27 assists for the Junior Bandits in 40 games that season.

Tralmaks, who has played for Latvia in the World Junior Championships, moved on to the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League where he tied a playoff record with 10 goals in 14 games in

UMaine develops parking plan for concurrent hockey, football games

Sports fans will be buzzing around the University of Maine on Friday night, with the Black Bears men’s hockey team hosting perennial rival Boston University at Alfond Arena and the high school football Class C state championship being played on the adjacent Morse Field.

UMaine officials in conjunction with the Maine Principals’ Association have taken steps to address any parking issues that might be related to the two games that are set to start slightly less than 30 minutes apart.

The Class C football state final between Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield and Cape Elizabeth is scheduled for a 7:06 p.m. opening kickoff, with the first faceoff in the UMaine-BU hockey game slated for 7:30.

UMaine men’s hockey team looking for first win over BU since 2014

...Beating the Terriers has become a priority, especially for the seven Black Bears from Massachusetts.

“We haven’t beaten them in my four years and that’s one of the things we’ve touched upon,” said UMaine senior left wing Nolan Vesey from North Reading, Mass. “We really want to beat these guys. Me and the other Massachusetts guys can’t stand BU.

“This will be a good benchmark for us to see where we’re at,” added Vesey.

‘We’ve had a few good games with them, especially last year,” said UMaine junior goalie Rob McGovern, who is from Weymouth, Mass. “We’ve got to find a way to get a win.”

BU swept UMaine 4-1 and 3-1 last season.

UMaine hockey team builds hope on tighter defense
With games in Orono and Portland, the UMaine hockey team could reach .500 by sweeping BU.

...“We’ve never beaten them during my time here,” said Vesey, a senior forward from North Reading, Massachusetts.

“This year, we know we can play with them.”

Pretty bold talk for the captain of a team that is 3-5 overall, 2-2 in Hockey East. But this is a Black Bears team on the rise, even with a 1-3 record in their last four games.

“When you look at it, the last two weekends, we’ve been much better defensively,” Maine Coach Red Gendron said.

In their first four games – series splits with Connecticut and Miami – Maine allowed 18 goals. The Black Bears halved that against nationally-ranked Minnesota-Duluth (2-1 and 2-0 losses) and UMass-Lowell (3-2 loss, 6-2 win).
