aechamps: He is as an associate head coach. He brings back the international recruiting. He got Woodward good horses, Woodward just didn't know how to ride them and would not ask for any help riding them from his assistants.

That wasn't Doug's fault. He has always been successful when he was a head coach if in the states or overseas.

Why not? He and Survivor Ashley would be the new king & queen of Orono. There really is no right answer so every answer is right! :)

mainejeff: He didn't even get an on campus interview when they hired Walsh after being a former Maine player who transferred back to Maine from Notre Dame as at the time was an assistant at very successful America East Conference rival Vermont who continues to hammer UMaine under the current regime.

Wonder if the UMaine assistant coach who came from Vermont to Maine to be with the coach he was an assistant for at D-3 Rhode Island College is glad he made that move 3 years ago? Seeing that Vermont just keeps beating Maine in the opening quarter-final game.

Which place would it be easier to move on to a better job Vermont or Maine...no brainer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Just wonderin".

aechamps: Thanks for the info. Interesting. When did he leave UMaine and where did he go to from Maine?

Where was he before he went to Oregon?

He was at Maine with Dr G....went to Buffalo after UMaine, Iowa State, Providence, Illinois-Chicago and the last three years at Oregon. He was very personable and was a great asset to Maine and G at the time. He was recently listed by ESPN has one of the top recruiters in the country. He was part of the CIA Bounce program in Canada and is from Illinois. He has recruited the three Canadian players from Canada to Oregon. He was the one to bring in kids from Canada and Illinois to Umaine back when he was with G. He played college ball at Morehead St.

aechamps: Thanks for the interesting information. He was under a good one with Dr. John G. He is only one of two coaches at UMaine since 1949 to have a winning percentage over .500. He has the best winning percentage since 1949 with 125 wins and 111 losses for a 52.9 winning percentage.

Also only UMaine men's coach to get the America East Conference Tournament Finals. In that championship game he had to play without his outstanding point guard who broke his arm/wrist in the semi-final game.

I knew John when he was at UMaine as a high school coach and as good a coach as he was, he was an even better guy.

It was Maine's loss and LaSalle's gain when he moved on to the big time.

UMaine has only had one winning season since he left in 2004 and that was in 2010 when they went 19-10. It has been 7 years without a winning season and only one winning year in 17 years since to 2004.

Glad to see someone with a UMaine men's basketball connection finally getting to the final four.

Good luck to Oregon in their game against the winner of NC and Kentucky.

He also was responsible for creating pre & post season workouts for player development. They were tremendous and I have personally used it for several years. He is a great guy and so happy he has found himself in a great situation. He is a very high energy person.
