Mack's breakout performance earns accolades, carries UMaine

ORONO - Prep all you want, but there was no stopping University of Maine running back Josh Mack this past Saturday against Bryant.

"I've had a target on my back since high school football," he said. "I've been the guy to go to. I know it's college football now, but it's kind of something that I'm used to. I like that."

Experience up front key to UMaine’s early offensive success

They average 6-foot-5, 303 pounds.

And the University of Maine’s veteran interior offensive line has been getting the job done through the team’s first two games.

The Black Bears racked up 536 yards of total offense in Saturday’s 60-12 victory over Bryant University after registering 352 yards in the 24-23 loss to No. 13 New Hampshire in their opener.

The numbers would have been even better against the University of New Hampshire if Black Bear receivers hadn’t dropped so many passes from redshirt freshman quarterback Chris Ferguson.

After early struggles, Maine football kicking job is up for grabs

ORONO - Field goal kicking is the most scrutinized position in football. You get a pat on the back if you make one, but if you miss one, all eyes are on you. The latter is what it has been like for Maine football kicker Kenny Doak during the infancy of his career.

Source: Memphis and UCF are trying to work out a deal to buy out of games against Georgia State and Maine, respectively, to play on Sept. 30

This sucks.

I just received an e-mail from UConn, still on their mailing list when we played them, and they just announced moving games with ECU and USF because of Irma.

So let's say we take a buyout and lose the playing of the game. That gives us a 10 game schedule unless we can schedule anything on 9/30 which I would think would be highly doubtful this late in the season.

Knowing that we would have been an underdog in that game and good chance of a loss, how much does that game affect us in the likelihood of a playoff spot?
Does 6-4 mean a no go and a 7-3 a go???

1. Maybe we can play Georgia State. At Turner Field. Then I can see three college football games in current and past MLB stadiums this year!

2. I think we'd need to go 7-3 but you never know

10 games would suck

If they cancel the game at UCF how about all of us that bought airline tickets, reserved cars and hotels. I am sure we wouldn't get any buyout and then fight with the airline to get our money back.
Buying out this game would have a negative impact to UMaine Football with consideration of playoffs. UMaine needs to show that they can play against these FBS teams!!

I agree DWG... that would be awful. I have not purchased flights yet so I would catch a break...but I usually do and would be furious if I had tickets to nowhere.
