Turnovers plague Maine in 28-10 loss to No. 1 James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. - It was an auspicious first half for the University of Maine against No. James Madison. A 60-yard run late in the third quarter by Josh Mack gave the Black Bears a 10-7 lead over the most explosive offense in the CAA.

But, as the second half wore on Maine faded and James Madison showed why it's the best team in the country.

No. 1 James Madison pulls away to beat UMaine football team

...However, the Dukes were able to break the scoreless tie when Bryan Schor led an 11 play, 89-yard drive, ending when he found Jonathan Kloosterman in the back of the endzone for an 11-yard touchdown. The first score of the game coming with 8:28 left in the second quarter.

After forcing a JMU three-and-out, Maine’s offense took over on its own 44 with 3:37 to play in the half. Faced with a third and three, Ferguson scrambled out and found Mack for a 15-yard gain. The Black Bears continued to move, reaching the JMU 23 before Brandon Briggs came on and knocked through a 40-yard field goal. For Briggs, it was his first career field goal, and Maine’s longest hit since Sean Decloux’s 42-yard make on Nov. 14, 2015 against Elon.

The Black Bears were able to hold the CAA’s top scoring offense (53.7 points per game) to just seven in the first half and entered the locker room trailing, 7-3.

James Madison beats UMaine, 28-10
Brian Schor throws for four touchdowns as James Madison scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull away for a win.

...After the interception, Schor found running back Taylor Woods moving out of the backfield for a 9-yard touchdown pitch and catch. No defender was within 10 yards of Woods, who trotted untouched into the purple-painted turf after securing the catch.

“That was a big turning point in the ball game, and that was a big-time play by (Robinson),” James Madison Coach Mike Houston said. “That wasn’t just that the quarterback made a mistake, but (Robinson) made a great read and acrobatic play on the ball.

“That’s a big-time play.”

Robinson’s interception was the second of three that Ferguson threw against constant pressure.

Coach H you need to act like a head coach and sit Ferguson. He still has time left to mature but if can't see his mechanics break down in the 4th at UNH and JMU then you need go back to D. C. Ferguson looked like a H S QB on Sat. Sit Ferguson and start Max Staver or the other kid they moved to TE. Who is doing a great job at tight end. Coach H you need to own up to this mistake you made and sit Fergy.

Blackbear27, I totally agree! Can you get a message to Coach H? If so, please do! I think he still has "new coaches syndrome!" He's gotta get tough and not fall in love with players. Coach H is in "Gethsemane" now and this is where he needs to show some real character and grow up on the football field, or we are in for a long season!

James Madison shows why they’re No. 1, UMaine football coach says

...Schor, a second team All-American last year, completed 21 of 31 passes for 281 yards and the four touchdowns. He was intercepted once and sacked three times.

“They were in a lot of one-on-one coverage. We’re really skilled offensively so we took that personally,” said Schor.

Ferguson wound up completing 20-of-41 passes for 162 yards. He was intercepted three times and was sacked on four occasions.

“I’m sure Chris would like to have this game back,” said Harasymiak. “He played pretty well in our first two games but he looked like a freshman out there today. On some of those sacks, he held on to the ball way too long. He made a lot of mistakes. But it’s growing pains.”

‘Chris is our quarterback:’ UMaine’s Ferguson struggles in loss at JMU

...UMaine travels on Oct. 7 to take on nationally ranked Villanova.

James Madison head coach Mike Houston also gave Ferguson a vote of confidence.

“There’s no question he should be their starting quarterback. At the end of the day, everybody has to understand what he was up against. We had 25,000-plus fans there and we have a pretty good defensive front. It was a very tightly contested game and we had some guys make some real good plays in the second half,” said Houston. “He’s going to be a real good player. I wish he was a senior, because he’s going to get better and better.”

I finally saw this ridiculous map.... so, let's give UMass ALL the best sections and stick Maine in at the end. Question to the group...are you sitting in the Maine section or looking to get better seats midfield? Still thinking of making the trip.

I felt the same way 612, don't know why they couldn't have given us some of the upper seats above the first base line? You would think they would know from hockey that we bring as many fans as anyone :x .
I opted for seats in section 27.

Looks like BC got even worse treatment... Who actually thinks UCONN will outdraw BC? Insanity.
