Impactful UMaine freshman class excited about first Hockey East playoff series

... The 36 goals is second most among freshman classes in Hockey East behind Boston University (53).

It also matches the goal total of the UMaine freshman class of 2008-2009, which included future National Hockey Leaguers Gustav Nyquist, Brian Flynn and Spencer Abbott. NHL defenseman Will O’Neill was also a member of that class.

“That’s really cool,” freshman right wing Mitch Fossier said. “A lot of guys have stepped up and filled roles that needed to be filled. It’s a pretty big jump from juniors to Hockey East. It has certainly been challenging but, at the same time, we know we belong and that we can be effective.”

Center Chase Pearson leads the freshmen with 14 goals and 8 assists in 34 games. He is second on the team with five power-play goals and is third among Hockey East freshmen behind BU’s Clayton Keller (19 goals) and New Hampshire’s Patrick Grasso (17).

Fossier has 8 & 8 and leads the team in game

Hasn't been very conducive to ice fishing until today. We have no snow here in Central Maine. Looks like the entire Northeast is in the same boat this weekend as Maine.....in fact Albany feels like 16 degrees right now and going down to 11 tonight. I always get a kick out of others in the Northeast overstating Maine's winter weather like they live in some balmy climate. Maine is not alone...everywhere in the Northeast sucks during the winter!!!

MJ, guess it depends on your definition of central Maine, we still have 2' of snow on the ground and annual Sebec ice fishing derby this week as well ;) Figuring you mean the Augusta area as central Maine, geographical center is Brownville.
Anywho, little discouraged HE has stepped and managed to charge $9.95 for each game instead of free VT stream. Figure I'll listen to Hannigan tonite and maybe pay to watch tomorrow based on performance tonite. Think we have a good chance of that elusive first road win. On the Fossier kid, think he had 6 of those 8 goals in the first or two w/e's of play, has been relatively quiet since then but certainly agree this frosh class can score.

Yes, Augusta/Waterville = Central Maine. Good luck arguing with most Mainers that Sebec/Brownville is "Central Maine". ;)

Have had this conversation with many S.Mainers trying to explain that Dover-Foxcroft is South of the center of the state, did not have much luck in convincing them of this fact
