Could be a great back to back recruiting class. Maybe the best since 84 & 85. Those 2 classes turned Maine football around. Maybe these two classes can get it to the next level and start beating UNH.

He's tall and has an arm that is for sure...and we got the receiving crew and RBs. Why would they have not announced his arrival? Perhaps not necessary.

I was waiting for something official from the University as Channel 5 mentioned 3 recruits last nite. This certainly puts the QB transfer at the top the depth chart just b/c he has college experience. Should make for an interesting spring. I understand why Jack didn't accept transfers but in this case I think it is a good move.

Football adds three transfers
1/20/2017 | Football
ORONO, Maine -- Quarterback Max Staver, tight end Brendan O'Neil and offensive lineman Quadrick Barnes have transferred to the University of Maine and will join the football team for spring practices, head coach Joe Harasymiak announced on Friday, Jan. 20.

Staver, a 6-foot-5-inch, 240 pound quarterback from Brentwood, Tenn. joins the Black Bears with one year of eligibility remaining after previous stints at Houston Baptist, the University of Florida and Tyler Junior College. Staver redshirted under Will Muschamp at Florida before playing two games at Tyler during his redshirt freshman season before suffering an injury. While with Houston Baptist in 2015, Staver started 10 games as a sophomore, completing 80-of-187 passes for 1,010 yards and five touchdowns as part of a system which saw action from four quarterbacks. Last season, Staver saw action in four games, going 15-for-37 with 173 yards and two touchdowns. Staver excelled as a high school quarterback at Brentwood Academy. In his senior season, he passed for 1,715 yards and four touchdowns while adding 265-yards and six touchdowns on the ground. As a junior, Staver racked up 1,872-yards through the air with 19 touchdowns. In 2012, he was named to The Tennessean's Dandy Dozen. Coming out of high school, Staver was honored as a 4-star recruit by ESPN, the 264th overall player ranked in the ESPN 300, and ranked as the 19th best quarterback and fifth best in the state of Tennessee. According to Rivals.com, Staver received offers from Florida, Louisville, Memphis, Mississippi State, Northern Colorado and Tennessee State following his high school career.

O'Neil, a 6-foot-4-inch, 230 pound tight end out of Burlington, Mass., comes to UMaine after spending two seasons at Wake Forest. O'Neil did not see any action while at Wake Forest, redshirting during his first season. A 2013 graduate of Buckingham Browne & Nichols in Cambridge, Mass., O'Neil was rated as the No. 5 prospect in Massachusetts and the No. 39 tight end in the nation. As a senior, he earned NEPSAC Lineman of the Year, All-ISL, All-New England, Boston Herald All-Scholastic and was also named All-Scholastic by the Boston Globe. O'Neil, who also received offers from UConn, UMass and Temple, was rated as the No. 88 tight end by Scout.com. O'Neil will have three years of eligibility at UMaine.

Barnes, a 6-foot-1-inch, 320 pound offensive lineman, spent a year at Lackawanna College where he was named a second team Junior College All-American. Barnes earned a Virginia All-State selection while at Petersburg high school. Barnes, who will have three years of eligibility at UMaine, also received offers from Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Troy.

I'm psyched that we are bringing in experienced players at positions of need! Maine needs an athletic center to replace Andrews. Tight end needs a major upgrade with someone who can get down the seam and catch the ball. I'm just a bit skeptical about what Staver will bring to the table? He was a part time starter who lost his job for a 4-7 Houston Baptist team. Maine needs a game manager type QB who is smart and can get the ball out quickly and let Maine's playmakers do their thing. It's a solid signing for Maine. He has a pedigree and some size and experience. That said it wouldn't shock me to see Walsh come out and win the starting job.
