I am proud to announce that I am verbally committed to play baseball at the University of Maine after high school. #blackbearnation

Excellent pick up for Maine baseball. Tall, lanky athletic pitcher with room to grow. Good to see the Maine kids who can play choosing to stay in Maine. Good to see the committment from the Maine baseball progam to go after Maine kids who can play.

Oxford Hills standout Colton Carson commits to UMaine baseball

SOUTH PARIS - Colton Carson is just entering his junior year at Oxford Hills, but his stock is high enough for the University of Maine.

Carson officially announced his commitment to the baseball program this week, where he will be eligible to play in spring of 2020. The rising-junior was dominant in his sophomore campaign with the Vikings, notching a 5-1 record with a 1.17 ERA in that span. He also was a star pitcher for the Bessey Motors Legion squad, which won the Zone 2 championship this summer.

‘His upside is awesome:’ Oxford Hills junior pitcher commits to UMaine

The list of homegrown pitchers choosing the University of Maine baseball baseball program during the last four years is considerable.

Justin Courtney of Bangor, Jeff Gelinas of Saco, Jonah Normandeau of Cumberland, Trevor DeLaite of Bangor, Cody Laweryson of Bingham, Eddie Emerson of Lewiston and Brewer’s Matt Pushard were all recent impact aces on the state’s high school baseball scene before heading to the Orono campus. And this fall Bangor’s Peter Kemble and Hampden Academy’s Alex McKenney will add their names to coach Nick Derba’s roster.

That flow of talent arms from within isn’t stopping anytime soon, given the announcement via Twitter that Oxford Hills of South Paris right-hander Colton Carson has made a verbal commitment to join the UMaine program once he graduates from high school in 2019.
