Over or Under??

Postby thebam » Sun Feb 01, 2009 9:08 am

In a brilliant marketing move, the struggling University of Maine hockey team has scheduled a game today, late in the afternoon of Super Bowl Sunday.

My question to you is this..

Over or under 3000 fans?

4 oclock start? superbowl day? really? what? was the 7 pm slot reserved for something else?

UNDER. Sad thing is that the reason may not be just because of the Super Bowl conflict.

I believe that Hockey East sets the conference schedule, not Maine.

That being said, there was a good chance of there being under 3,000 even if there wasn't a Super Bowl (*yawn*) being played today. At least the game is on ESPNU for those of us who have DirecTV.

If an ESPN channel said UMaine would have to play a game at 6AM on New Year's Day, UMaine would take it. We all know the power of TV.

Had the Patriots and/or Giants been in the Super Bowl, that would have made fans up here feel conflicted. Steelers and Cardinals? That shouldn't hurt attendance too much in Orono.

Game was over just prior to the start of THE game on Sunday anyways...Just enough time for those close to UMO (Umaine, as everyone calls it now) to run home after and catch catch the majority of the first quarter.
