How many women's championships has Albany won since BU left the league? Answer = A lot.

And not just in Softball !!

They are The Premier school in the SUNY System, certainly in regards to athletics, and with a few exceptions academically as well.

But, it is still a relatively small school within a moderate size state university system, and in a low-population state, so I guess it is pretty surprising and impressive. ;)

Go "Great" DANES !!

Maine softball proud of overcoming hurdles in 2017

ORONO - Despite arriving back to campus after 3 a.m. Monday following a crushing 6-1 loss to Albany in the America East Championship Game, Maine softball head coach Mike Coutts said his team can look back at the season with a sense of pride.

UMaine overcame multiple setbacks in drive to softball title game

... He was pleased how players stepped up in the tourney.

Coutts will have a strong nucleus returning, including all of his pitchers and said, “there is no reason we can’t contend for a conference championship every year. That was my message to the girls.”

The entire outfield returns in All-AE first-team center fielder and leadoff hitter Rachel Carlson (.364-0 home runs-10 runs batted in, team-high 12 stolen bases); left fielder Erika Leonard (.235-3-22) and second-team right fielder Meghan Royle (.281-4-22).

Second-team third baseman Alyssa Derrick (.308-15-37) heads up the infield. Her 15 homers tied a school single-season record. Derrick, Carlson and Royle were all-tourney picks.

Hermon's catcher Hailey Perry earns Miss Maine Softball award

...She is also an exceptional defensive catcher with a strong arm.

“I was very surprised,” said Perry via text-message following the North-South Classes A-B Seniors All-Star game at Cony High School in Augusta Thursday night. “I knew about the other girls, and their stats, and knew it would be a tough choice, especially with my soon-to-be-teammate, Lilly Volk, in the running. She’s an amazing player!

“But it’s a huge honor, not only to be representing Hermon for a second year, but to be representing Maine. I’m so thankful and fortunate for this opportunity. I couldn’t have done it without my Hermon softball family, my family and my friends.

“I’m so excited to be furthering my career at UMaine and working even harder to become a better player every day,” she added.

Softball:: Derrick may be better at football than she is at

Postby Tom Nolette » Sun Jun 25, 2017 3:18 am

Impressive throw !

Maine infielder Alyssa Derrick may be better at football than she is at softball

Forget the infield. Let her play quarterback.

Alyssa Derrick, the third baseman for the University of Maine softball team, followed up her America East Rookie of the Year campaign by hitting .308 with 15 home runs for the Black Bears in 2017. But if she ever gets tired of the diamond, she may have a secondary career on the football field.

Want proof? Check out this rocket for an arm:
