UMaine Field Hockey Eager to get Started… Ready to Build on 2015 Success

UMaine field hockey is ranked just one spot out of the Top 20 in the NFHCA preseason poll. The Black Bears are finding their own as they’re just a few days away from the regular season opener…

UMaine hosts Providence this Friday, at 1 o’clock in Orono, in their opener. UMaine won the match with the Friars last fall 4 to 1 on the road.

UMaine erupts early to upend Providence in field hockey opener

.. UMaine’s Emma Cochran allowed one goal in the first half and didn’t have to make a save, and Emily Corbett had two stops in the second half.

The Black Bears outshot Providence 31-7.

Kali Kilmer scored for the Friars, and Megan Guilbert made eight saves.

“Maine has a fantastic team,” said Madl. “They play such a good attacking style. They’re solid all-around. I have the utmost respect for them and the job Josette is doing with them.”

“They’re a really good team. They’re really fast,” said Providence senior forward Kilmer. “They have really good ball speed — passing, cutting. They got behind us a lot.”

Field Hockey Tops Sacred Heart 6-1

Box Score ORONO, Maine -- Maine field hockey defeated Sacred Heart University Sunday afternoon 6-1 at the Maine Field Hockey Complex. Six different scorers propelled the Black Bears to a 2-0 start on the season. Sacred Heart falls to 0-2 on the year.

Emily Corbett started in goal for the Black Bears and Emily Degennaro started in goal for the Pioneers.

Maine opened with the first goal of the game two minutes in from Libby Riedl, her third of the year, to take and early 1-0 advantage.

Twenty minutes into the first half, Lydia Gavner scored off of a pass from Danielle Aviani to give the Black Bears a 2-0 lead. One minute later, Riley Field scored her first career goal with the Black Bears to increase their margin to 3-0. Maine outshot Sacred Heart 8-0 in the first half.

Emma Cochran started in goal for the Black Bears.

Three minutes into the second half, Ella Mosky inserted off of a corner to Libby Riedl who set up Samantha Wagg for the Black Bears' fourth goal of the game for a 4-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Madison Cummings scored her third goal of the season from Libby Riedl, her second assist, give Maine a commanding 5-0 lead.

Casey Crowley scored the sixth goal of the day for Maine which was unassisted to increase their margin to 6-0.

Sacred Heart was able to end the shutout, 58 minutes into the game as Allie Brouhard notched her first goal of the season.

Maine returns to action September 2 as they travel to Hofstra University for a 3:00 p.m. game.

Cummings, Crowley power UMaine hockey team by Dartmouth

ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine Black Bears scored five second-half goals to snap a 2-2 tie and earn a 7-3 victory over Dartmouth Monday at the UM field hockey complex.

It marks the first time under 10-year head coach Josette Babineau that the Black Bears have started the season 4-0. Dartmouth falls to 0-2.

Madison Cummings sparked the Black Bears with three goals while Casey Crowley chipped in with a goal and four assists.

Cummings started the five-goal outburst for the Black Bears, five minutes into the half off of an assist from Crowley on a give and go as Maine regained the lead 3-2. Eleven minutes later, Adrianna Martineau notched her first goal of the season as Maine increased its lead 4-2.

Too bad most folks won't check out this thread line to see how the gals are doing, and They Are Doing Great !!

In the good ole days, this thread line and the teams current success would have been noticed by all who checked out the basic UMaine site. :( :( :(

I'm guessing there are a lot fewer hits overall on UMaine topics/posts than there used to be, cuz folks don't get there curiosity piqued on a wider variety of posts/topics/sports. That's certainly true for me.

UMaine’s Cummings is Named America East Field Hockey Player of the Week

Maddy Cummings has scored 8 goals in the first four games for the UMaine field hockey team. The Belfast high graduate is the America East conference player of the week.

The team is 4-0 and is now ranked 20th in the nation…
