CIM'sBLOG: Are UM women's BB going to recruit anymore player

Postby bcbc55 » Mon May 07, 2018 5:20 pm

While the UMaine men's basketball team have had the bulk of the news regarding the two basketball programs at UMaine as they have a complete new 5 person coaching staff, including the head coach, 3 assistant coaches and 1 director of basketball operations, has 6 players leave via transfer and 7 new recruits they have dominated the University of Maine's basketball news.

The only news on the women's side was Aimee Vachon being named the head coach, and Julie Brosseau transferring and the women adding two new international recruits.

Last season 2017-18 the UMaine women's basketball team had a roster of 13 scholarshipped players if they all had a scholarship. They had one senior and have one transfer so they were down two 11 players so they recruited two new international players so their roster is back up to 13 players.

The women have at least 1 more scholarship than the men's D-1 13 scholarships available.

Will they use that scholarship for next year or will they keep it available like they did last year?

CIM's BLOG: Are UME men going on foreign summer trip?trip?

Postby bcbc55 » Sat May 12, 2018 3:34 pm

Supposedly this is the turn for the UMaine men's basketball team to go on a foreign trip this summer as the NCAA allows D-1 teams to go on such a venture every 4 years.

Hopefully, it is as it would be great with the hiring of a new head coach and new assistant coaching staff and with 7 new recruits.

They are allowed 10 practices before they leave and are allowed 5 games against international teams. I don't know if they can practice during their trip. I believe the trip is for 10 days.

However, if they are going on a trip that will give the coaching staff a head start for next season as they have several areas to address strategically and fundamentally as well as see how good the new recruits are in real game action and situations.

They are not allowed to play any other D-1 teams, but play against usually international or country teams which include some professional players.

Does anyone here on MBR know if there is such a trip planned, when is it and where is it?

"thebam": Good one! Correct score John Bapst 10 Katahdin 9 and I was not the head coach I filled in for the head coach who was absent. I was coaching the Bapst freshmen for him that year. Only time Bapst lead in that game was at the buzzer a 15 foot jump shoot won the game. Half time 7-4 Katahdin.
