Great overall improvement by the conference this season.....nice to get into the Top 20 conferences. Maine has a shot at finishing #3 IMO......unfortunately, they could also finish #9.

Barnies percentage wise is the best shooter on the team but is only taking 6 shots per game and how many of those are offensive putbacks?

McLemore is the second best percentage shooter and is taking 11.2 shots per game

McNally is the 3nd best shooter percentage wise. but he is only taking 7.6 shots per game and how many of those are offensive putbacks?

Owes is 4th best shootet percentsage wise but has played quite a few fewer games than the others

Socoby is the 5th best shooter percentage wise

Bernal is the 6th and poorest percentage shooter on the team

Barnies and McNally between then are only taking 13.6 FGA per game while McElmore and Socoby are taking 21.4 FGA between them per game. Barnies is the lst percentage totl shooter and McNally is number three, while McLemore is number two and Socoby is number five.

What does those stats tell you???? The lst and third percentage shooters are getting less attempts then the 2nd and 5th ranked percentage shooters.

yeah, really seems like the other mid-major conferences are down. There aren't really too many exciting Butlers, etc. to lay claim to lower seeds this year. I bet you'll see an overload of big-boy conference teams in the tourney this year. And, maybe that cycle is starting to come around as it always does in sports... Some conferences are strong for a while and awful for a while. America East could be growing a bit in the right direction...

MEN'S AMERICA EAST BASKETBALL CONFERENCE STANDINGS, OVER ALL RECORD AND POWER RANKINGS as off February 1, 2009.
.......................Overall................Conference
Power................ Record..................Record

258....UNH.............7..12..........UMaine...3...6....333... 4
274....Hartford........6..17..........Hartford..2...7....222... 5
................Totals..89..96...........Totals..39..39

Maine has Stonybrk at home on Tues. Feb 3, UMBalt on Sat. Feb 7 and Hartford on Wed. Feb. 11 at home for the next three games.and they are on the road to UNH on Thur. Feb 19, at Albany on Sun. Feb. 22 and at BU on Thurs. Feb. 26 and then end up at home with Vermont on Sun. March 1.

All 3 home games against Stonybrk, UMBalt (maybe) and Hartford should be winnable and Maine could climb to 6 and 6.

The three game sin a row against UNH, Albany and BU will be alot tougher and Vermont at home will be tough. Look for Maine to finish around 67-9 or 8-8 and finsih about 6th or 7th unless they really play to their potential, as they have as much talent in the league as any of the teams as they have beaten Albany, Stonybrk and Hartford and have had the lead in the first half against BU, UNH and Vermont in the last three consecutive games which goes to show that they can compete with the best in the conference.

Out of Conference 50 wins and 59 losses for all teams
America East is still the 16th ranked conference in D1 right now. much improvred from theoir 25th place out of 32 last season in the conference power rankings.

Latest Shooting Statistics for UMaine. After outshooting BU and Vermont sytiscally in the last two losses here re their latest up to dat shooting team percewntages.

FG Percentage 41.5%
3 point shooting % 36.3%
Foul Shooting % 66.3%

They are taking 32.8 percent of their field goal attempts as 3 point attempts.

These shooting percentages are not good even for high school teams, let alone a D1 team. They are going to have to get to at least 45% from the floor, 40% from 3 poiint line and to 70% from the foul line if they are going to make a serious run for the tournament championship later in March.

To get the 3 point percentage up to 40% they have got to go inside/outside more and dribble penetration and kickouts more to get wide open 3 looks. They also have got to reduce their turnovers to less than 12 a game also. Currently they are averaging 15.9 turnovers per game and are averaging 14.5 assists per game. Tjhey also have got to cut their prsona foiuls down to 12 a game as trhey are curently averaging 18.3 fouls prer game.

THe formula is really simple. If you committ 12 or fewer turnovers, shoot 70% from the foul line and committ less than 12 turnovers a game, statiscally you should win the game, do 2 of the three things and you should have a 2/3rds chance of winning the game, and if you do l out the 3 things you have oine/third of a chance to win the game and if you don't do any of the three things thewn you are going to lose the game.

If Maine drops there turnovers from 18.3 to 12 they get 6.3 more FG A a game and if they make 2 they pick up 4 points, if they shootn70% fromthre line insteasd of 66.3 they ick up 4 points per game and if they keep the other team of the foul line by reducing their PF from 18.3 to 12 they will take 4 points off their opponents score, that is a 12 point difference and how many games have they lost by more than 12 points this year? Not many. Just do those 3 things and they should win all three of the next home games. These three thingds just take mental discipline, reduce the personal fouls, reduce your turnovers by making good basketball decisions and focus on your foul shooting spells victory.

I think your crazy SDF.......alot of good mid majors this year.............Butler, St Marys (although they just lost their big time PG for a bit) Davidson, VMI who puts up almost 95 ppg (has a win of Kentucky) , VCU still has Eric Maynor, Utah State is 21-1 with its only loss vs BYU and Siena is 17-5 and 11-0 in a very decent MEAC........(overall 12 RPI)

id say a couple of these teams get past the first round.
