WOW, i missed something and I guess I'm glad I did. From what I'm guessing is that we are talking about HS players here who either were or were not recruited by Maine. It's not a good idea for us to show our warm welcome to any player negatively. If after 3 or 4 years in a Black Bear uniform he doesn't get it done then we can comment on the recruit. Until then, anyone of these kids can be the answer. Is the kid from NH better then the one from NY? Who the heck knows. These guys were evaluated at 16yrs old. My guess is the kid from NY had no interest in following his brother, maybe he heard the weather repots.. Maybe the staff didn't like the way he performs or didn't see him as a true SS. Man there are so many variables... How bout this one, His top pick was down in NC and when that school made him the first offer he took it and even though he may have gotten more dollars at Maine he got his dream school. Done.

This entire recruiting deal is like a crap shoot in Vegas, when you have lots of money to play with things happen differently then when your short on cash. The last 2 classes most likely hold most of 80% of Maine's scholarship money with 20% split among the others (ok I may be a bit off but you get the point) We only lost one kid to the draft and he had exhausted hie elegibilty anyway so no money back. This year we could lose a couple of jr's and get some scholly money back but ya can't spend it cause you don't know.

Lets just root for the Bears to win 30-40 games. Less then that would be a failure considering the schedule. To do this we need to play well and stay healthy. I think Maine baseball fans may be smarter they are given credit for so we need to win games and get the top spot in the AE tourny.

TL, the cript keeper. Way to keep an eye on things here.

Awww, just a friendly discussion Fano, with a favorable outcome !

Man, ain't that the truth ! Good perspective Fano. I just hope my chances in Vegas next weekend are better than D1 college baseball recruiting !!

Div.1 baseball recruiting is certainly way more complicated than for any other sport ! With less than 12 total scholarships available, to be spread out among 4-5 recruiting classes, it's tougher than playing the stock market with only $100 !!

And that is what we want to talk about and watch !!

Well this should stir up the soup with one of our writers.... Word is that the 09' recruiting class just got better. For the 2nd time in a 10day period word has been leaked that the Black Bears have secured a committment from RHP Steve Perakslis from Abington, MA.

Here is some information on Steve:
PG Rating: 8.5 Stephen Perakslis is a 2009 SS/P from Abington HS, residing in Abington, MA, with a 6'1"/180 pound frame. Pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot, high leg kick, online delivery, downward plane, good FB at 88 mph, 11-5 CB with depth at 70 mph, 74 mph SL as well, aggressive pitcher.

Very Interesting !! Couple this with the other "new" commit, and the pitching staff is getting quite deep for next few years if we can keep these guys healthy AND eligible ! Still, I would like, Really Like !,to see a couple/three LHPs, with preferably a JUCO transfer or two next year !? ..... Can't be much $$$ left to work with for attracting additional Spring commitment letters ?

FYI on the other recent verbal from Fano post earlier:
Jeff Gibbs
6'3", 185 lbs
RHP - Team Ontario/Team Canada Junior National Team
Toronto, Ontario
Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute
#669 National Ranking on PG Crosschecker
15th Best Canadian High Schooler in Canada

To the Maine Black Bears Contingent heading out to Vegas:

Best of wishes for safe trips and good luck. Don't spend your life savings in the casino's either :)

Here's some more info. on him:

Stephen Perakslis

He also hit .525 with five home runs and 46 RBI as a senior. His father is his high school coach. (recruits that are coach's sons are always a good thing IMO) Sounds like he is a legit everyday player if the pitching doesn't work out at Maine.

He was also one of only 2 juniors on the Boston Globe All-Scholastic Baseball Team (they had a typo error - he was not a senior):
